Getting a Mr. Coffee appliance today. What's a good type of cheap, ground coffee? Folgers? I don't know any brands..

Folgers is terrible. The cheapest DECENT coffee is 8 o'clock coffee. If I were you I'd just get a grinder and beans. It isn't that much of an expense and coffee is god.

Don't get a Mr. Coffee; get a french press and take Hayden's beans/grinder suggestion.
That is the way to go. And just as fast. |

Yes. French pressed coffee is 10x better or if you do buy a coffee machine don't get a cheap-ass Mr. Coffee.

So french press is much better? Reading about it, it says that the coffee has more sediment in it, which doesn't sound very appealing, but it's just as cheap as a Mr. Coffee machine.
Are coffee beans more expensive then already ground coffee? I don't want the whole thing becoming a major expense. Then there's buying a coffee grinder...? |

You can get grinders for pretty cheap. Hell, you can use a mortar and pestle if you want.
French pressed coffee tastes miles better than drip coffee, seriously. Coffee varies pretty widely in expense; I say try a few things and see what gives you the best value for taste vs. price. |

Alright, I'll take you advice.
Is there a recommendation on the french pressed brand? A good type of coffee to begin with? |

Buy beans from your local coffee shop. Try French or Italian Roast.

Krups makes decent coffee makers of all kinds if you can't afford anything fancy.

I don't have a local coffee shop (walmart not considered). I'm at least a 30 minute drive from a coffee shop. I'll check out Krups. |

Then, go to a grocery store. Grocery stores generally have decent roasts.
You don't have a fucking coffee shop? Do you live in a cave? We have coffee shops across from coffee shops in Willmar.

I live in Alabama, 'nuff said.
I'll check in a gorcery store. Been reading about the press and becoming less and less sure about it. I don't doubt it being much better, but it all seems so pricey, and as can be seen, I'm not to keen on pricey things. I'd have to get a $30 press and a $30-40 grinder and I haven't even considered coffee, but what I've seen seems to be $20 a lb.. |

$20 a lb? That's absurd. I buy really good coffee from LuLu Bean's for 9.50 a lb. I have 20, 30, and 50 dollar grinders. I only own the 20 dollar one but my roomates and I collectively use each other's stuff. We have a three shelf cabinet about 6 feet long covered with grinders, presses, machines, tea, coffee, and junk.

French press is the way to go. Try amazon.com!!! You can get a press for 20 dollars and free shipping! I am quite sure you can find an inexpensive grinder and probably even beans. Seriously check it out. I hope I am not too late.
