Anyone heard this yet? Probably my favorite album of 2008 so far.
It takes everything Neptune has done well before and combines it to make one amazing, cohesive "noise rock" album. Though most people talk about their home made instruments (which are great), most people fail to mention that this band actually excels at writing great songs... this is complex, well-structured, amazing stuff. Check it out... |

fucking great band.
I still have to get Gong Lake. Don't know if you have seen this, I posted it in the Jukebox thread Neptune - Grey Shallow VIDEO I like that video, nice idea. They are one of the best live bands out there, that's for sure. So far I only have Mice and Worms, Patterns and that Productivity Is A Science Single. oh - and both, the Red and the White Tape. Love them all. There was a video of an entire live set somewhere, but they put that down. |

I listened to the new album and was dissapointed. I saw them do this material live and it was much better. They really toned down the noise on gong lake. It lost that excited crazy energy it had live.

Really? I'm glad the noise is turned down a bit. It's still noisey; it's just produced. I couldn't believe how good it sounded.
Intimate Lightning is also really excellent. I really whatever sound that sounds like different glasses are being beat on. Reminds me of Harry Partch... |

Yep it's a really good album, I really like Grey Shallow, it's an incredible track. I wouldn't rank it #1 of 2008 so far, but definitely a great one, yeah

I know by the end of the year it won't be my favorite, and I haven't heard the new Experiemntal Dental School yet (it came out 2 days ago) which is probably better, judging by the new songs on the myspace. The only album to give it competition so far is the amazing new Dengue Fever album. Of course, there are new Farmers Market and Secret Chiefs 3 albums coming very soon.
It's going to be an amazing year for music. |

Actually I think that, whatever rock critics say, we are really living an amazing period for music, and that in almost every genre existing. There's really loads of masterpieces being released, and I probably can tell more 2000's masterpieces than 1990's masterpieces. Maybe this is because I was born in 1990 so I grew up musically in the 2000's, but really... fantastic period |

Saaramkrop, it's easy for noise rock to appear to be directionless- or aimless-sounding. Neptune sounds like they know exactly what they're doing. I like that.

^^^ exactly
Though I think directionless noise rock can also be interesting, you can easily drown into the sound, which I like |

Right, it has its place, I'm just saying: It's EASY to be directionless in this kind of music. It's easy to become so in love with your aesthetic that you end up making stuff that goes nowhere. This stuff actually goes places... and that's amazing.
