His almost gothic darkside was always part of his mystique for me. The records obviously stand on their own merits but the stories about Spector the man helped define another pop culture staple, reproduced in movies like Mullholland Dr. or the Alfred Molina scene in Boogie Nights, that's obviously impossible to condone in real life but which I've always found fascinating.
