I want to hear yr thoughts on the YYYs. I recently got their live DVD and it just hit me how awesome they were. The stuff that comes out of Karen's mouth and Nick's guitar is just mind-blowing. The guitar stuff is just so strange, like nothing I've ever heard or seen. Anyone know what tunings/effects he uses?

the dvd is great, I love chase's drumming, he is a great drummer and better than most rock drummers today. The drums in the intro to miles away is jazzy and improvised, very cool. And of course the octopus move...
As for Nick's tricks: Roland Space Echo (RE-201) (used as a preamp to the 2 fender amps) EH Polyphonic Octave Generator Turbo Rat Digitech Whammy Pitch Controller DigiTech Jam Man Line 6 Delay Modeler Line 6 Modulation Modeler Boss RC-20XL he uses a fender strat and a first act custom. Two Fender amps (or maybe three), one for bass and one for treble frequencies. He uses a slide for Our Time, as well as a slide for modern romance(for noise). The line 6 Delay Modeler is used to loop guitar in alot of songs... Tunings: drop d an open tuning for Our Time... it sounds like I love the band but I just love the dvd and their first ep, everything else is terrible... |

I'd rather listen to Duran Duran Duran.

yes i really like them. they are playing here soon, but tickets sold out after just a couple of hours
the new album took me awhile to get into, i thought it was bland and boring, but i quite like it now that it's grown on me. some really great songs on it. |

They're alright but not alright enough to be headlining a show with sonic youth.

Show Your Bones is almost like a whole album of "Our Time"s. That's not really bad but it does take a while to get used to.

I enjoyed Fever to Tell. I haven't listened to the new one, but I've heard it sucks.
