This is on the Maximum Penetration video. (Fans f the Teenage Riot video should watch particularly closely.) I've never seen it on youtube until now so, in case you've not seen it and you're interested:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=rbTpqd8Fss0 And just because it seems so right, not that you haven't already seen it a guzillion times already: http://youtube.com/watch?v=hclcrEpui64 Oh yeah, and this too. Not as good as the one T&B posted in another thread (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqwtXeI1AFo&NR=1) but, you know: http://youtube.com/watch?v=U065hLtX9Xs |

I'm not into people bumping their own threads, but i can't believe that EVERYONE into PG has seen this clip. Anyway, just so it's not totally just a bump, here's the video for Live Skull's 5-D . God, I wish more people would give props to Live Skull. One of the most underrated Rock bands from the 80s. They had a song called Demon Rail, doncha know! There stuff's a bastard to get hold of, but you can d/l pretty much everything they did here. If nothing else, check out the Cloud One album, if only for the track 'Fort Belvedere'. If you haven't already heard it, prepare yourself for an experience of greatness.

It's all about personal preferences I suppose, but I have to say I'm slightly shocked by this. Not that people might not like Pussy Galore, which is perfectly understandable, but that they prefer Harry Pussy. Fair enough though I suppose. |

Harry Pussy is more improv-jibber than the scum-rock that Pussy Galore perfected. The PG clip is sheer class!

Yeah, I can see the differences, maybe I should rephrase it in that I find it a bit odd that someone such as batreleaser says he likes Harry Pussy but not Pussy Galore. That's all.
Either way, here's a clip from the largely forgotten 80s NY Noise outfit Certain General. Oh, and here's some Unsane, back when they were good. |

oh, and the reason i love harry pussy but dont dig on pussy galore a whole lot is that to me, pussy galore have always seemed like pointless noise, or noise for the sake of noise. never liked jon spencer. oddly though, i have always loved royal trux, but i just like their stones influenced blues rock re-imagined as nihilistic noise rock, or something. harry pussy i just love, because even thougn they were so noisy, they still had structure to their songs, they werent strictly improv, i also think they were an amazing live band, and just a sick, great fucking band. i mean, just because two bands make similar styles of music, doesnt mean i like both bands.

What connection is there between PG and Siltbreeze?
This video is a horrible conversion; and it is about the only watchable thing on Max Penetration which visually is shit IMO. Comparing HP and PG is not really useful. PG was a noisy rock band that later became more blues rock based. HP started out as a crazy spazz rock band but then devolved into more straight noise, sadly. I really didnt find much interesting in listening to Adris scream for 30 minutes. If I remember right, HP opened for the Dead C at the Mercury Lounge when I saw them in 1995, I was so knocked out by the show I went over to Maxwells a couple nights later and saw the Dead C with Thurston and Tom Surgal opening... |

I love Jon Spencer. Only he could come up with such amazing song names as 'Fuck You, Man' and 'You Look Like A Jew'.

Yeah, PG definitely had a way with song titles. I remember contemplating getting Groovy Hate fuck before ever actually hearing them and being swayed by the cover (which just looked brilliantly wrong) and the track listing. Any album that can boast Kill Yourself and I Just Wanna Die is always gonna be a pretty strong purchase option in my mind.
That I got home after staring weirdly at the cover on the train just to discover that the actual songs were even better than their titles was way beyond the realms for me ... I was in fantasy land, lemme tell ya. Remember hearing Car Fantasy and just thinking to myself, is this allowed?!? I bought a bass pretty much immediately afterwards. which is weird considering they never had a bass player in the first place. Maybe I was unconsciously jostling for potential membership of the PG party. Although I also remember being tempted after hearing the JAMC (my other faves at the time). But it was PG that really did it for me, and are in many ways the band responsible for the car wreck of a person writing this very post. And the nice thing is, is that unlike the JAMC, PG are still my go-to band when I'm in the mood for some hot rock action, when I can't find my action swingers albums that is. |
