Hi everybody! Iīm a new member. I Live in Finland. I Have listened Sonic Youth less or more fanatically since year 1992. I Have never seen Sonic Youth live (they have been here 3 times, last time was in a year 2003, hope they come here someday again, I wonīt miss them then!!)
I would like to know, is there many vinyl freaks in this gossip? Iīm a vinyl freak, I have every album Sonic Youth have released in vinyl. But I donīt have so many ep:s and singles (I donīt know, is blast first version of "Death Valley 69" a single, but itīs the only "single" Iīve got, then I have "Master-dik", "Dirty Boots", "In the Fishtank" and syr-releases). Are there somebodies in this gossip, who have the most of the Sonic Youth vinyl releases, I mean almost all the e.p:s and singles? Does anybody got "Kill yr Idols"? |

I've got something like 80+ LPs/12" and 30+ 7". Can't be arsed to detail them all, but there's pics in one of the older threads.

I like to see the platters spinning around. LOVE to play my vinyl I have nearly everything sonic youth has out on vi nyl except Confusion is Sex. I have many of the 10" EP's and the 12" singles as well as a ton of 7" singles and side projects.

i like records but i am considering pruning things. vinyl is heavy. when the nazis come (and they will come), i won't be able to flee as fast as when i carry a couple of hard drives.

all it takes is one Electromagnetic pulse from a thermonuclear warhead and your hardrive is dooo doooo, even hundreds of miles away.
Yr vinyl will make a good bonfire if you need to roast the meat of yr enemies

i prefer hardwood with a little mesquite thrown in for flavor. but i won't be bunkering down here. mobility is nobility. fleeing is the way to go, while taking the occasional hostage to feed on (you can even keep them alive while you harvest the parts-- no need for the meat to spoil) i might reconsider ditching the vinyl, but i've learned from the joos-- transportable wealth is where it's at. the weight will slow you down. on 2nd thought, i could keep an underground vault with all hefty treasures until the hostilities are over. hmmmm.... |

Stu: Iīm trying on more time. I havenīt seen your Dirty-version, what it is? Is it Australian pressing, that is mentioned in the discography page? How about your three first syr-records, are their vinyls coloured? I bought them last year and they are all black. In the discopraphy page is said, that thereīs only one pressing of syrīs. Is it possible, that the first 100 copies for example are coloured and rest black? Have you got any information about that? Have you got Ciccone Youth-lp? I bought last year the goofin re-release.

Yeah, that's the 1000-only Aussie cloth-bag version of Dirty. Orange vinyl as well.
There's a lot more than 100 coloured copies of SYR1-3 - all the first run were AFAIK - it's only relatively recently (well, the past few years) that the black ones have been available. SYR2 gets complicated though - there were some initial black copies (promos?) as well as at least 2 variations in coloured pressings (clear blue & green/blue I think), as well as the later black ones. There was a long thread about them a couple of years ago. |

hey Mortte, yes that is the Australian limited edition release of Dirty that i have, comes in cloth bag with 2x orange vinyl and a poster. the SYR 1,2 and 3 i have are all colour vinyl, i don't know how many were pressed before they switched to black. as for the Ciccone Youth lp i only have this on cd (original release and re-release). i also need to get Confusion is Sex, Made in USA, Washing Machine and Rather Ripped to complete my collection.
i need to update those earlier pics i posted, since then i have got The Destroyed Room, Goo, The Eternal and a few other things. here's a few more solo/side projects i have. |

Radarmaker: Thanx for information about syrīs. Maybe I find someday the coloured-vinyl-versions!
I think I have "Dirty" european original version, but it doesnīt have orange vinyls. The keeper of the discography page wasnīt sure, did european original version have orange vinyls or not, I think it didnīt. I have "Washing machine" Us-version, it have that "oddity", that "No Queen Blues" is the last song in 1-vinyl, not the first in 2-vinyl as it is credited. Maybe it has been mistake. I have also "Rather ripped" but it donīt have the book, that is in some copies. I was also very disappointed, when I bought my "the Eternal"-vinyl from the local record-shop, because there wasnīt the extras that was in the "Matador"-campaign. I didnīt order that vinyl from Matador, because I wasnīt sure, could it be possible to take a part that campaign in Europe also. |

From the solos: I have only Goofin re-release of "Psychic Hearts" and that same version of "Trees outside the academy" that is in the picture and Kimīs Syr-album. I have been interested at Leeīs solos, because he makes so much good music with Sonic, but I havenīt yet asked nowhere, is there something available in vinyl.

No, all versions other than the Aussie one are black. Off the top of my head, the only official coloured SY LPs are the pink SST Evol & purple SST Sister (both very hard to find), the orange Aussie Dirty & both the Euro & US pressings of EJST&NS (blue). As you've probably seen, there's a lot of coloured copies of EVOL & Goo on eBay these days, but they're all bootlegs (didn't stop me paying way over the odds when they first appeared though ) If you haven't already seen it, the Discog additions thread has other bits & pieces that may not have made their way onto the site yet as well. |

Yeah, you should be safe - if there were boots of those, I'd expect them to turn up a lot more often than they do.
