Yeah, there's probably already threads for this but that's neither here nor there for me, really.
I picked it up yesterday. I like the feel to this album. Modest Mouse.

modest mouse, the older stuff is quite good but that last album was terrible and this one is pretty much the same.

besides being on a major label what's wrong with the new stuff.
there has been a logical progression through their music just like SOnic Youth |

It doesn't have any of the edge that their music used to. By edge I mean songs like Doin' the Cockroach, Tiny Cities Made of Ashes, Dramamine, All Nite Diner etc. I miss that Modest Mouse a lot.

i've listened to it like twice, but the first half is awesome, better than good news..., and i loved good news... (and yes, i also have the lonesome crowded west, etc. was not by far my introduction to modest mouse). the second half, it seemed a little boring.

Better than Good News but still boring.
I miss the days of Long Drive and Lonesome Crowded West.

#1 on bilboard bitches. sold 129,000 copies in its first week. http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/..._id=1003563939
i didn't know what to think at first. i guess they're more popular than i think they are. possibly thanks to the O.C. ? Good News did sell 1,500,00 copies, so i guess it isn't that surprising. I like the album.better than what i expected. you would be a moron to think that this album would be comparable to lonesome crowded west or moon and antartica. unfortuantely, those days are over for modest mouse. it's hard to write music about the unfairness and harshness of life when your last album went platinum. We were dead definetly has it's moments though, but it also has its faults. there are some songs that force you hit the skip buttom on your CD player. one critic said that you don't really hear any of Isaac's existential barking on this album. |

I've been listneing to it alot today and I really like it. Fantastic album. It's a safe album for the band. They could have went all radio, or they could have went even more obscure than Good News was, but they found a middle ground. It sounds like this album should have came before Good News as it's not as bold of an album.
