there's no album that sounds like that. maybe organic music society is closest to the vibe but not
minimal at all or codona but largely just because collin walcott looks like terry riley |

True. Some amazing stuff though As a leader: - Complete Communion - Symphony For Improvisers - Where Is Brooklyn? - Mu As a sideman Ornette Coleman - - This Is Our Music - Free Jazz (all those Ornette 59-61 Quartet records on Atlantic) New York Contemporary Five - Vols 1 & 2 Albert Ayler - New York Eye & Eye Control Old & New Dreams (basically an Ornette Tribute band - the Atlanic Quartet w/Dewey Redman in lieu of Coleman) - all of it |

The Ornette box set "Beauty in the eye of the beholder" is in my opinion one of the greatest releases ever by anyone and Don Cherrys playing on those sessions is amazing and on that release in the best quality

The Avant-Garde by John Coltrane and Don Cherry is one of the jazz albums I've owned the longest.
It's an album I enjoy, but I believe the title is all wrong. I didn't feel this away until I purchased, 'Free Jazz' by Ornette Coleman and Don Cherry. To my ears, this album should be called, 'The Avant-Garde.' Last but not least, I highly recommend: http://youtu.be/dPmxnQiYgoc ^^there was some good discussion about this album in another thread a few years back, but my quick search turned up nada. I will search later tonight, but now I'm out the door headed to Houston for the day...... |

Coincidentally someone on Facebook reminded me that The Wire did a Don Cherry primer a while back, and I think I still have the relevant issue hanging around, so I'll check that out in combination with the responses on here.
