Thanks. Saw these earlier this week. Good stuff.
It's a pleasure to see a band having this much fun playing these songs together. It also makes me feel a little bit sad though, because they won't be playing in Belgium on this tour. On the other hand, I went to see Lee with the Bang On A Can All Stars yesterday in Antwerp and I must say it was a wonderfull experience. The evening started with a great solo-performance of a Steve Reich-composition and they finished the first half with Thurston's "Stroking Piece #1", which really had a great SY-vibe. And for the grand finale, Lee joined them to play his piece "How Deep Are Rivers". It was just a breathtaking and fascinating composition, a superb ending. I didn't know a lot about Bang On A Can All Stars going in, but the whole evening was quite a revelation to me. I enjoyed every piece they played. And in a way, it kinda made up for the fact that the Dust doesn't play in Belgium this time. |

No, Lee didn't perform it. He only played with them for the last composition. Mark Stewart (of Bang On A Can All Stars) did. However, it was a captivating way to start of the evening. I also hope the piece with Lee will see an official release in the future. That'll be awesome. Maybe they'll release a registration from the whole 'Guitars'-tour one day ... On their site, I only found a live-version of Thurston's piece (from 2011): http://bangonacan.org/audio/peoples_commisssioning_fund |
