Jutok Kaneko of Kousokuya suddenly passed away yesterday, January 24th, around 11am. He was just 48 years old. Fuck man...so many good people dying recently. And so young too. I imagine this thread will sink like a stone just like the Uwe Nettlebeck one did. |

I heard about this this morning via the list you speak of.
What a shame; such a young age! He recorded an LP with my friend Rinji; I will give it a spin today in his honor. Kousokuya is a great band. |

I'm always disappointed when people die before I have a chance to hear their music. Should I be concerned? Someone up me something good so I can be pissed off that I never saw him live.

I can't digitize vinyl, sorry.
Kousokuya included, for a time, Sachiko, who now plays in Overhang Party. He also played back in the day with the likes of Narita and Haino. Kousokuya started in 1979 and endured many lineup changes, but endured as an entity for far longer than many of their contemporaries. |

Sachiko as in Sachiko Matsubara (AKA M)? Or a different one?

I prefer this one:
Although as far as Japanese improv ladies go, and there seem to be a few, which is an utterly brilliant thing - catch up with Japan (again), rest of the world - I prefer Haco:

That's too bad.
I had been listening to his Endless Ruins album just before reading this. Big bummer.

Kosokuya's 1st (PSF132) is one of the undisputed classics of the Japanese psych scene. If you're into Fushitsusha/High Rise/Les Rallizes de Nudes etc... you need this. After Fushitsusha Kosokuya were probably the darkest and heaviest group out of Japan. You can't really go wrong with them. Kaneko also had a very nice (mostly) solo guitar and vocals album called Endless Ruins (also on PSF). You can't go wrong with either.
