I'm embarrased to admit that, while having heard plenty of songs and even seen them live I don't actually own a single Neubauten album. I've decided that now is finally the time to address this sin and was wondering what the best one to get was. I'm thinking maybe Halber Mensch.

Funf Auf der Nach Oben Offenene Rickterskala is probably my favorite, but I'm also not a huge fan of their music, so take that with a grain of salt.

depends waht you are after, if you want the more industrial dirty stuff go with something like kollaps, haus de luge, halber mensch. if you want the mellower stuff go for something like tabular rasa, silence is sexy or perpetuum mobile. ende neu is brilliant, richterscala is brilliant, patient ot is my current fav.

My favorites are Halber Mensch, Tabla Rasa, and Silence is Sexy.
Halber Mensch is not "industrial dirty" in my book, it's almost it's own form of music, like classical symphonic work done with pieces of metal and heavy machinery. Certainly "industrial" in the pre-NIN sense of the term, and sonicly quite heavy at times, but incredibly tightly put together and carefully arranged. Brilliant lyrics too, with a handy English translation on the lyric sheet. Tabla Rasa has more quiet moments, but is totally consistent with Neubauten's sound, and "Headcleaner" is anything but mellow. Silence is Sexy is along the same lines, but unique in it's own right as well. More English lyrics than normal, but Blixa is just as poetic when his writing is bilingual, in a way even more so. |

Given my overall taste for bands like Pussy Galore, The Birthday Party, The Cramps, etc., I'm not sure how to answer that. |

I'd recommend 'Halber Mensch' and 'Drawings of O.T.'

I need some Einsturzende (sp?) as well... but I will just pick up whatever I can find at the store, if anything. If not, I'll ask my cousin if I can borrow her compilation of 'em...

There was another thread like this about three weeks ago. My thoughts are on there.

I don't like Halber Mench that much. It's more industrial/electronic driven and has less texture and drones on it. I'm a huge fan of "Haus der Luge" and "Tabula Rasa" myself - I think "Tabula Rasa" is one of the most impressive pieces of recorded music ever made.
