Usually found singing the same song, either together or trading lines or both. X comes to mind. Need others. (Or post a link to a thread where this had already been discussed cuz I can't find it. Found one of male and female g-spots however.)

I'm only coming up with obvious stuff at the moment, so I apologize, but Sonic Youth and Velvet Underground are probably the two best examples this side of Fleetwood Mac. Then, y'know, there is Fleetwood Mac.

And Deerhoof, and Throbbing Gristle, and Yo La Tengo... Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine, Broken Social Scene, Arcade Fire, SWANS, Belle & Sebastian, Dead Can Dance, Fiery Furnaces, Thee Oh-Sees (sometimes), Low, Boredomes, New Pornographers, Blonde Redhead, The Knife...

Not giving any real thought to quality here. Just listing bands as they come to me, but I doubt there's a single band on that list that everyone's grandmother hasn't heard of.

its curious, isn't it?

The standard is the Jefferson Airplane. Crown of Creation and After Bathing At Baxters are very listenable records nearly 50 years later...

Of course Royal Trux were pretty fucking great when Jen and Neil sang together, and pretty fucking great otherwise.

X?

Jefferson Airplane?! The "standard?" Oh man, that's rich. Sure they were something kinda cool before they turned into the worst cliche of American rock, but the standard? Negatory, I say Fleetwood Mac is the standard for shared male and female vocals.

If not them, Mamas and Papas? ABBA? Not freaking Starship mang.

Should I ever try to listen to Fleetwood Mac seriously? Like, sit down with an album and just try to understand it? The thought has crossed my mind for years but I've never put it into action. Never heard TUSK and I don't feel the poorer.

Thanks and good stuff otherwise but

Yeah, did I make that clear enough? I meant singing the same song, at least now and then.

Yes, I actually do believe that you should sit down and listen to a Fleetwood Mac album. There's a lot of snippets of awesomeness in their golden period. You could play it safe and go with Rumors, the one everyone in the world owns, because you probably own it. Or you could get weird and go with TUSK. I think the latter is probably the more interesting listen. If you listen to Rumors, you'll likely just realize that you have, in fact, heard it all. I'm not a fan of the band in general, but they had some pretty cool moments that I think most musical fans can appreciate. They also had many many shit moments.

Also, Jackie-o Motherfucker!!!

Tell ya what, just listen to the song "23" from the album of the same name. Get back to me (or someone else... plenty of folks here dig them more than I do), and we'll go from there.

I rather like a small-ish canadian band named July Talk that does duel vocals like this.

Some of the post-Peter Green/pre-Fuckingham-Shits stuff is interesting. This "middle period" extends, album-wise, from Kiln House through Heroes Are Hard To Find*. And I don't think it was ever on an album, but Jeremy Spencer's Somebody's Gonna Get Their Head Kicked In Tonight is cool--hard to believe that song and Danny Kirwin's Jewel-Eyed Judy (from Kiln House) are from the same band that now includes Pukingham-Blitz.

*Putting out an album with a cover like that on Heroes Are Hard To Find nowadays would get Mick Fleetwood arrested.

Prolapse!

Absolulety fantastic english/scottish half-forgotten postpunk band.

Their songs often featured parallel male/female vocal lines, with different lyrics sung by male and female vocalist. It was strange, yet very interesting.

To be honest, I've never fucked with pre-Buckingham Mac. Of course, VH1 legend dictates the band didn't really find itself until Lindsay and Stevie joined, but in reality, Rumors was, what... like, their ninth album?

I will give a listen.

prolapse are really good for that, yeah, like a more forthright stereolab, I guess a bit more unhinged?

surely beat happening did this at some point too, and I think the art bears did as well...

Peter Green's Mac were solid if slightly workmanlike Brit blues rock, some passable moments but unless you've got more than a passing interest in that scene you're best off sticking to the less wanky bits of Cream and Hendrix, or the heavier stuff stuff that came in its wake. Green's solo free-jazz-inspired solo album before he shut down completely is worth a go.
