I've been enjoying her solo and collaboration work alot lately, especially hemophiliac (with Zorn and Patton) and MYRNINEREST,is anyone else a fan of her post DNA work?
Also, I have been meaning to get the new Death Ambient album Drunken Forest, but I havent yet , has anyone given it a listen?

A reminder:
On Tzadik:
DVD EditionIkue Mori: Bhima Swarga–The Journey of the Soul From Hell to Heaven [#3007]
Years in the making, Bhima Swarga is a fascinating film project from one of the most creative electronic musicians around. Delightfully animating traditional paintings from the Kertha Gosa temple ceiling in Bali, Mori depicts the journey of the soul from hell to heaven in two versions: one scored using her signature laptop electronics and one scored by Matt Welch, featuring a full gamelan ensemble augmented by Ikue's electronics and Welch on saxophone and percussion. A spectacular audiovisual presentation for all ages.

either way, have you heard the one they did for zorn's 50th birthday celebration?

lucky lucky. i've never had a chance to see any of those folks perform any of that type of stuff. i've only ever seen trevor dunn and mike patton with the very obvious groups.

that still sounds prett cool.
i saw mike patton with fennez this past saturday night. it was a pretty amazing show to say the least.
but when i saw zorn, it was a really intense night. i listen to a lot of free improv, but had never seen it being done before my eyes. they played 2 sets with the musicians alternating. unfortunatly zorn only played two songs and went home early cause he was sick.
but everybody else was fantastic!

IN general I hate the laptop crowd but Mori is an exception to my ears, I've seen her in several different collaborations and always produces an interesting, engaging and novel sound. When I think of her playing I recall one sample she uses frequently (or my perception of is that she uses frequently) is of pouring gurgling water - its a gorgeous sample that comes spilling otu of the PA. The Mephista project is particularly wild live.

Ikue Mori is my favorite electronic/laptop or whatever you'll call performer. I have Hex Kitchen / One Hundred Aspects... / Myrninerest / Phantom Orchard the first two Death Ambient CD's and Synapse album. They're fuckin' great. I was never a fan of electronic music but Ikue And Jim O'Rourke changed my perspective, so i'll be forever in debt to her "plastic" sounds.

I was just talking to a friend about her sound a little while ago,
I told him that if water was electric, then that is what Ikue Mori would sound like.
He looked at me as if I was nuts.

I have to disagree, her work with DNA was amazing, and she will probably always be best known for it, but I think shes evolved to being a better/more creative musician now as opposed to during her initial DNA days.

most people i have conversations with who know who ikue mori is and i bring the fact that she used to play in dna, i get the almost universal response of "she was in a band before?"

her solo stuff is way more well known than dna, same with arto lindsay.

for awhile it seemed I couldn't see a show at Tonic without one of the bands relying somehow on a laptop. I always associate them with those idiot 'digital noise' bands. Life is way too short to waste consciousness on that artificial crud. I wanna rock!

NOw where did I put my Orbital bootlegs? :-)
