Hey guys,

I'm trying to find just one live recording from the archives that encapsulates the feel of each studio album throughout their career.

By the 'best' I mean if you had to substitute the actual album for any of the live recordings from that time, which one would it be?

I'm talking best sounding/performance, and one that takes in most (if not all) of the songs from the current record.

We'll start with the newest first (excluding The Eternal for now as that is still an ongoing process).

Will be interesting to hear the responses.

My favorite recording from the "Rather Ripped" era is 2006-07-01 at The Roseland Theatre, in Portland, Oregon. The band played so full of joy, in good spirits, Thurston dedicated "Shaking Hell" to Coco as a present for her birthday, the performance of "Mote" also included a beautiful gesture to Coco from Lee's part. The circulating copy is a thir13en remaster. All in all, the performance is great, and the sound-quality is perfect.

One of my personal favourites is 2006/04/19 Paris, France, 'Le Mouv' Radio. I think it was one of the first Rather Ripped show, and one of the first without Jim O'Rourke. Some of the songs are a bit sloppy (read: Sleepin' Around intro) and some announcer lady talks over some of it, but all in all, it's pretty good.

And I think they even break out Stones towards the end to rapturous applause.

Yeah, that one ranks highly in my list, too. If i remember correctly, that show ended with "Mote".

I mentioned the Portland show without really thinking too deeply about it. It is certainly the best in terms of sound-quality, but reflecting a little bit, i'd have to say now that, from my point of view, the shows kept getting better and better as the tour progressed. The recordings of December 13 at Le Zenith in Paris, France; and December 16, at Postbahnoff, in Berlin, Germany; are pretty great examples of how great the "Rather Ripped" material was in a live setting. I think by the end of the tour, the songs were better than they were at the beginning. I saw them in February of 2007, it was just wild and wonderful. I'd wish a recording of that would exist.

The first couple of shows from RR era the band added Sunday to their setlist. Unfortunately they dropped it a few dates later.

SY are a band I wish would release a solid soundboard (or more - even better if they could get a soundboard/audience mix) from each tour. I'd love a good document of the album live, and if any band deserves that kind of treatment.

I'm also interested in this discussion... I don't have a lot of live SY because there's SO much... so knowing the best quality of each tour is nice...

Thanks for the recommendations, I already had a couple from 2006 but I’m enjoying hearing the others. The Portland one is a great recording, very loud and clear!
This one is worth a listen too (Catholic Block and Erics Trip especially ) and it is well recorded (sound quality wise)

Portland is not only a fantastic recording, it was phenomenal in person.
