yeah Rhys, people do seem to be going out of their way (the polls & everything today) so that I will call them "dumb" haha
maybe hoping for me to go off so that they can quote me in their little signatures...well perhaps god vs. satan...sheesh by the way, The Bible says that Satan is the unquestioned ruler of the Earth; until Armageddon, that is. Which is actually good wisdom if you interpret it correctly. Now, with the whole Revelations End of the World deal that John of Patmos crafted an adolescent revenge fantasy & it is fast becoming a very real self-fulfilling prophecy. But let's get past that. John of Patmos let his ego run away with him & he brewed up Revelations & jumped the shark, but at its core, the very kernel of the whole book, is a fine nugget of wisdom. Evil is real & the reason why evil exists pervasively is ultimately because of the fear of death. Now this is the metaphorical meaning of Satan symbolism. As we each continue to err & have bad wills that engender bad consequences we impel the world towards destruction because unconsciously we want to suffer & be awakened out of our fear. Thus, like Teddy Roosevelt reminds (somewhat different context, but) "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." In other words, unless one really deals with their own fear of death, they will unconsciously bring suffering upon themselves. Although suffering does foster wisdom through its disruption of the ego, it's actually in everyone's own best interest not to be a total selfish asshole; contrary to popular belief & the general way of the world. I'll tell everyone one thing, I didn't pull all this out of my ass. I learned over time because I humbled myself enough to know how important knowledge & self-knowledge are. |

This is a joke based on the "You're obsessed with me, you're a troll" line used by someone else a lot, right?

I think I've said this before, but on occasion this forum reminds me of half-witted dalmations that can't seem to grasp the concept of an electric fence. Every five seconds someone zaps their own balls on here. |

No, Atari regularly flames people, and often quite accurately and amusingly, I must say. That is, until I incur his wrath someday. |

Yeah, I know. I thought he was a twat for ages on the old board because he was a total dick to me when I first turned up there, but he's quite an alright fella mostly, and much funnier than the relentless, "Sonic life!" types.

Well, that was a rather pointless, obvious joke, wasn't it?
Atari thought I was a troll when I first arrived. I don't blame him, because for some unknown reason, he is not the only one who suspected that I was someone else. That seemed to be an opinion held by many. This is going to sound like more cock-stroking, but atari is one of the few posters on here that I truly respect. Even moreso for his occasional rant - seeing atari lose it is one of the most entertaining events on this board. |

He does know how to make a point, back it up, expand on it, turn you against yourself and do it with seeming ease and finese. Not that I know him or anything, but it is premium entertainment.

hopefully Rhys won't mind, but here is what Plato transcribed Socrates as saying before he was to drink the hemlock & be sentenced to death for "undermining the gods of the state" & for "corrupting the youth of Athens".
Now as you see there has come upon me that which may be thought, and is generally believed to be, the last and worst evil. But the oracle* made no sign of opposition . . . I regard this as a proof that what has happened to me is a good, and that those of use who think that death is an evil are in error . . . . Let us reflect in another way, and we shall see that there is great reason to hope that death is a good, for one of two things:--either death is a state of nothingness and utter unconsciousness, or, as men say, there is a change and migration of the soul from this world to another. Now if you suppose that there is no consciousness, but a sleep like the sleep of him who is undisturbed even by the sight of dreams, death will be an unspeakable gain. . . . Now if death is like this, I say that to die is gain; for eternity is then only a single night. But if death is a journey to another place, and there, as men say, all the dead are, what good, O my friends and judges, can be greater than this? . . . What would not a man give if he might converse with Orpheus and Musaeus and Hesiod and Homer? Nay, if this be true, let me die again and again. . . . Above all, I shall be able to continue my search into true and false knowledge; as in this world, so also in that; I shall find out who is wise, and who pretends to be wise, and is not. . . . The hour of departure has arrived, and we go our ways--I to die, and you to live. Which is better, God only knows. *the Oracle at Delphi which many scholars believe was simply using the I-Ching |
