It has John and Joan Cusack, except John Cusack is a hitman and Joan Cusack is his secretary. He goes to his high school reunion and rekindles his love with his high school sweetheart.
And the soundtrack is more solid through and through. Oh and Dan Akroyd is in it. |

1997.
http://www.amazon.com/Grosse-Pointe-.../dp/B000001FJL Haha, amazon's review calls the movie an 80's nostalgia film. Which is basically what it is. In the movie, they use more than those songs- they use that Nena song and they play some Pixies, but they aren't on the soundtrack. |

I agree that Grosse Point Blank is better but it is a different kind of movie. High Fidelity is a charcter film about relationships and music. Gross Point Blank is a romance/action film.

I like "Grosse Point Blank", and yes its better then "High Fidelity". I love how John Cusack's character doesn't even lie about being a hired killer and everyone at the reunion just assumes he's lying and acts very cool about the whole thing.

I thought Grosse Point Blank was pretty weak really - decent soundtrack, but I was expecting more from it. But then again, I like High Fidelity (the book more than the film), so what do I know...

ha ha well if john cusack is the criterion for movie picking, then i'd say being john malkovich & the grifters will blow these out of the water, with a possible recommendation for the thin red line-- this one "possible" because i haven't seen it but a) it's got great reviews b) was directed by terrence malick who's a smart motherfucker. actually i'm going to add the thin red line to my netflix queue right now. i liked grosse point blank though i think it could have been better. well high fidelity (the movie) is more about how a guy with arrested development issues must give up his protracted teenagehood & become "the man" (a music producer) in order to keep some pussy around in his old age. i haven't read the book, but it should be better. |

Agreed, my comment was geared toward the fact that the book and movie tie that issue with various relationships and the music of that era as well as the whole record culture. But yeah, I see your point about the bowf of 'em. |

What's with the John Cusack love? He's not a very good actor. Here's one for you: Con Air is more entertaining than either one (though fucking terrible)! Say Anything is TECHNICALLY better than any of these! Etc.
Go watch real movies... please. |

Well, when I say "real".. people like what they like, but these films, in my opinion, hardly need discussing. They're nothing special. The IMDB boards are brimming with debate about this kinda stuff. The Sonic Youth board should bring love to films that are worth talking. Like, I thank the above poster for showing John Malkovich some love.
