Legendary Canadian noise music pioneers The Nihilst Spasm Band last performed in the UK in 1968. Forty years later, The Termite Club in Leeds (which celebrates its 25th birthday this year) is bringing 'em back for a unique event to be held at Holy Trinity Church in April. Since forming in 1965, they have been described as "the world's first noise band" and have certainly been a huge influence on the Japanese noise music scene, playing sold-out shows in Japan in 1996 and putting in a bizarre appearance on a TV variety show. UK avant-garde music stalwarts Nurse With Wound even dedicated their famous list of influences to them. Famous fans include Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore and, less predictably, R.E.M.'s Peter Buck and Mike Mills who once put in a guest appearance at one of their traditional "every monday night" public rehearsals (where "an audience is welcome, but not neccesary"). Recent years have seen collaborations with free jazz multi-instrumentalist Joe McPhee and they have been the subject of a documentary film ("What About Me: The Rise of the Nihilist Spasm Band", directed by Zev Asher). The Nihilst Spasm Band perform on a variety of instruments, including several of their own invention such as the Pratt-a-various and the giant electric kazoo. Also featured are the hilarious vocal declamations of frontman and musical saucepan vituoso Bill Exley.
Carlos Giffoni is maybe best known as the curator of the No Fun festival which brings a staggering variety of international noise and out-there performers to Brooklyn each year. However, Giffoni is also an acclaimed sound artist himself, with his solo laptop and analogue synthesizer performances, his bands Monotract and Old Bombs and collaborations with just about everyone you could think of from the worldwide noise underground. Full line-up to be confirmed soon! £15 per day, or £30 for a three day pass. http://www13.redstation.co.uk/term577794/fest.html |

Probably not, no. I just posted it in case anyone else might be interested. And also to give Nefeli another reason to want to move to England.
