http://www.angelfire.com/comics/mov/banned.html
Archive of banned cartoons from the 30's 40's etc. I remmeber some of these because they were still being run into the late 70's and very early 80's at times. stereotypes, jingoism, just racist shit. it is good that those specific stereotypes are not proppagated by cartoons as much anymore, but it makes me wonder what currently acceptable and seemingly innocuous "types" in cartoons will be seen as vile and racist in 60 years? There's bound to be something

Thanks for this!
I remember a lot of these too; it's pretty crazy to watch and imagine a time when this stuff was considered great for the amusement of children. The way they made Japanese people look in the WWII era cartoons is insane! |

Feeding kids with propaganda before they're old enough to make a stand, and even in cartoons, fucking disgusting.

The older Warner Bros. cartoons are tough to beat for their era. Old Daffy Ducks are the best.
I remember reading recently how porkmarras loved Tom & Jerry. Tom & Jerry cartoons suck, although other Hanna-Barbera cartoons like The Flinstones, Droopy & Scooby-Doo are good. King Features brought us Popeye. The older B&Ws are the best. The Adventures of Bullwinkle and Rocky and His Friends, which was first run as an abc series, is wonderful. |

Tom and Jerry cartoons seem to be made with a varying quality. Some of them are excellent, some are very very odd (german ones), and some are utter shite.
I love Tex Avery directed cartoons. Although there are some un-PC things in older cartoons, in general they were made with much more intelligence and to a higher caliber than childrens cartoons were. Before the advent of the adult cartoon, children's entertainment used to be a lot better, with content that was much more universal. |

The only thing that seemed offensive on that one is when Bugs pulls out the dice. I've never seen this stuff before. Pretty crazy. |

That's not a banned cartoon. It's the The Adventures of Mark Twain. I've seen it on TV several times. |

I know, but I didn't want to start a thread about controversial cartoons, so I posted it here.

given some of the adult cartoons on the air these days, they'll probably be able to release these back onto TV soon enough, if they wanted to. Just this time around, people'd be laughing at the stereotypes in an 'oh God, I can't believe they did that' way, instead of laughing with any racist jokes.
1n 60 years, we'll probably be laughing at racist attitudes and the idea of political correctness. |

The banned 11 are notorious.
One of the greatest Bob Clampett cartoons is in that list. Coal Black and De Sebben Dwarfs is one of the finest examples of musical animation ever created. The animation is so fluid and it matches the music so well. It's an amazing piece of work.
