mine: more important than I let on, less important than what you think
other people:depends on what the expectations are of the person. If there aren't any, then not important, but if I'm supposed to meet with a great doctor and he shows up with one shoe, torn pants, a trenchcoat full of holes and dreadlocks (not the hip (as if that really exists) kind, the lack of bathing kind) then I would be worried, at least to the point of talking with him. Despite what everyone wants to think about themselves and others, image does matter, you can't help it, this was ingrained in you by the media and society since you were a baby. I wish society in general didn't put as much emphasis on image but they do and it is gonna rub off on you no matter how hard you fight it. |

The Bard said all the world is a stage, and on it we each play many roles. Image is important as a way to communicate, and as a protection device. The image I put forth as a supervisor for a state Attorney General's Office is rather different from the one I put forth on stage with the Dead Air Fresheners.

I like to be comfortable about how I look. I like to look a little rough around the edges. I don't feel comfortable with the pretty boy look.
Image is pretty important. |

Not at all important. I think maybe for a brief period in my life ALMOST cared but it didn't get me anywhere. I've had the same girlfriend for 5 years, and she doesn't care about my image that much, so I've definitely gotten lazier. Fuck it.

I like to think that my personality is strong enough to make itself apparent regardless of whatever clothing or haircut or whatever I'm stuck into. Maybe it is the existentialist in me, but I care less about looking good for others (maybe if I'm doing something particularly formal or informal) and more about whether how I look makes sense to my personality. And, again, that is mostly a natural progression with little need for maintenance. But yes, image is important but I try to avoid disguises as much as possible.

Image is very important. Everything is on the surface anyway. There's no such thing as depth.

Image is everything. But so is context. Then again, what really matters is soul.
At the same time, nothing really matters. And what if it did?

if there was no such thing as sex i think the whole population would be fat sweatpant wearing bed sore cleaning slobs.

Image is why I wear skinny jeans instead of baggy ones. If I wore baggy ones, you guys would all say I'm a boring old man. Since I wear skinny ones, you can say I'm a boring old man with a midlife crisis, which makes me immensely more interesting.
No, seriously, in a way, I dress to feel good about myself. But it's not as important as other things.

Quite clever, but that doesn't work as an analogy. Water is penetrable.

So like if I'm having a shitty day, but I'm wearing my Levis 511s and Nautica polo shirt, I can still look in the mirror and say, "gmku, you look mahhvelous."

I have a girlfriend and I still like to look good, as does she.
I never want to become that couple that look like shit and wear sweatpants around all day and get fat from shitty junk food just because I have no standards anymore because I'm 'taken'. That's to stop using your mind aswell. If you feel you look good, then you'll feel good. One should not judge someone on their looks though, or anything for that matter.

I can go months without looking in a mirror. And yet my appearance is not shambly or anything. Most of it is routine.
