ok folks, i have a question for you.
yesterday, on some old dusty mp3 cd I discovered a well-hidden gem: a couple of tracks by the so-called Bill Wells Trio. I immediately fell for the music, it's dark, moody and beautiful. Sounds like driving a cab in the middle of night around some large large town.
And what's the best thing about it, it's exactly that kind of jazz I've always been looking for.

I have uploaded three tracks for you here:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/5yrh5g

So, can you please recommend me anything that would be similar to this music, in terms of atmosphere and the overall feeling?
Thanks in advance.

They play on an album by Future Pilot AKA called 'A Galaxy of Sound' which is very varied in styles (Alan Vega, Kim Fowley, Scanner etc are all on it) and sounds like it might be right up your alley, even though it's hardly jazz.

Wow, that's good shit.

I dunno if I can recommend stuff that spot-on, especially stuff you wouldn't already know, but a lot of Dave Brubeck's stuff is like that. Try George Shearing, too--ballads especially. In fact, most jazz ballads, sax and piano at least, have a similar feel, but the stuff you uploaded is pretty unique. I'd recommend looking in the very late 50s, though. '59-'60.

Geographic

I have both of them, and they range from quite good to plain dull.

those 3 songs are good but i wouldn't call them jazz, they're closer to the less avant garde end of contemporary composition if anything, to me they sound like Satie via Penguin Cafe Orchestra, or something, but it's not a field of music I know a much about.

If you're looking for jazz ballads with piano you can do a lot worse than checking out Bill Evans.

Or Miles Davis - Kind of Blue

For something more contemporary and more jazzy, but still quite dark and moody you could give Chicago Underground Duo/Trio a try

Trio http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=sHjUSC...eature=related
