Just compare the melody in Guns and Roses´"One in a Million" and Sonic Youth´s "Reena". Yeah, the second is much better but...

Is it just me or does anyone else think they're going to listen to 1979 as soon as James Run Free starts?

I've noticed the "One in a Million" similarity before, but I would hardly call it a ripoff.

The opening riff of Reena sounds like Gimme Shelter by the Stones, to my ears. Only sped up a bit.

SY of course are well-versed in all kinds of music, including classic rock, so it doesn't surprise me that this kind of influence shows through. |

So THAT'S the song it's from. I knew it sounded like a smashing pumpkins song at the start.

Thanks for reminding me of this...yes... I don't see the One in a Million similarity though that song has a completely different rhythm the little flourish from the end of the riff on Reena sounds slightly similar, but that's it if anything that bit is inspired by playing with O'Rourke and listening to Neil Young, not Guns |

...I also wonder, is it Jams or James? The title on the CD says Jams, and isn't that what Kim says in the song?

Listen to her vocal during the verses and compare to Axl's vocal during the verses. You'll hear it. |
