sadly the only film of wong kar wai's that I've seen was the Ashes of Time Redux at the Toronto film fest. Met him there too! Made me feel bad that I couldn't suck his dick like everyone else was. I tried watching 2046 a few months ago but that was during a time in my life where I was pretty lonely... and that movie didn't help so I turned it off about 20 minutes in.

I'd get Fallen Angels.

But of the two, Chungking Express. 2046 is good but definitely one of his lesser works.

WHATEVER YOU DO, don't get My Blueberry Nights or whatever it was called.. ugh!

2046 is an EXPENSIVE film, delicious to look at, chunking express is cheaper and more hardcore, i say go chronological and build up the layers. the man has very few themes and they repeat themselves with variations. which is a pleasure to notice. you'll see.
