Supposedly Albini has never forgiven Thurston and Lee for stealing his lunch money.

I've never heard of it, but that sounds kind of weird. Of all people to disagree...

Wasn't there an Albini song called 'Kim Gordon's Panties', or am I just imagining it? Rapeman.

Steve has played with Thurston in Bigfoot, so I'd say he does not hate them

Steve said Sonic Youth was one of his favorite bands on some Big Black tour diary. Thurston, at the beginning of White Cross from "Hold that Tiger": "This is the Big Black reunion song." Kim Gordon's Panties is from when Kim threw her leopard print panties to Steve Albini. In retaliation, Sonic Youth tied up Steve at a Rapeman show with electric chords. As a joke. They have a very joking rivalry. Steve said in an interview that he hated Sonic Youth "selling out" and making lesser music when they signed to a major. But I don't think he holds it against them. I think they have a friendly rivalry, and Steve has just noted that SY doesn't make the kind of music they used to make.
Etc. |

I always thought it pretty odd that Thurston, Kim, Lee or Steve weren't included as any of the 779 "friends of Shellac" listed on The Futurist, especially since it reads like a Who's Who of American indie-rock. Bob Bert gets a mention though.

How funny that one of the only later albums he gives props to is Dirty, which is certainly one of their most big studio production albums ever. |

Yeah I always assumed it was a jokey thing between them. Unlike, say, Albini and Courtney Love. Or Courtney and anyone.

I liked reading his comment
"A single sale = a small bet. A lifetime fan = a huge pot." I wish I could reply back how seeing his name as engineer is a plus to deciding to buy an album. I bought Scout Niblett's album mostly because I heard Albini recorded it. Too bad I didn't like the album anyway. |
