its my biggest fear because i hate all that bullshit.

i used to work for a collection agency and we had to sue some people.
some of them would simply vanish, and you'll find out everyone was sueing them too.

sued someone I rented a house to for damages. she owed $1510. she now owes way more than that because of interest. Possibility I'll ever get the money? Not likely at all!

never but i was close. a landlord also owed me a lot of money and was delaying the repayments by a long time while still renting out the place, he claimed no income buteventually he coughed up and it didnt need to go that far but he was a leech so i didnt feel that bad.

I got sued for 2 million! I think. Maybe it was 1 million. Car accident. I hit him at like 5 to maybe 10 mph. IIRC, at his deposition, he said 'well, I can't mountain bike anymore'. I don't actually remember the outcome but I assume they paid his medical bills and told him to go away.

not always true. the people that sued me weren't exactly middle class (or even US citizens for that matter). in fact, they made most of their money by sueing people.

the company that I worked for at the time, paid them $30k just to go away, since they were also named.

when it came to the date of the actual hearing, nobody showed up.

there's big money in suing corporations and hoping for cash.
