i may have started a b52s thread back on the old board, cant remember, but in case i didnt........

the first b52s album is a classic. not a bad song on there. one of my top albums.
i recently gave their 2nd (wild planet) another chance and im starting to like it, especialy give me back my man.
ricky wilson is such an amazing guitarist, i think he played with 3 strings tuned all wierd. the girls have great voices, and fred...well fred, hes just the koolest fred in the world.

i wouldnt recommend anything after those albums, the gtrst died mid 80's and the 52s were obviously a different band after.

if youre new to the b52s, or you just heard love shack and think thats enough then just go get the self titled first album.
you wont be disapointed.

dance this mess around and 6060842 cannot be beaten.

vids from late 70's and maybe 1980

more recent, but of an old good song.

I'd like to find the first one. I'm sticking to vinyl these days, which makes acquiring some of this stuff harder, but I'm keeping my eyes peeled on the used and reissued bins. Appreciate the rec.

By the way, I do like Cosmic Thing, even though I know it's not as great as their original work. It's a great summertime album.

i have a funny story regarding the first album on vinyl...

once while walking in ny, i found a bookstore that was having a used vinyl streetside sale, every lp for a buck or something, so i was browsing thru all the crap (because that was all there was, crap) when i found the first b52's album on vinyl, it wasn't on the best conditions so i asked how much and they told me a buck, i payed and walked away. once i sat down, i took out the album, remembering that i hadn't checked out if it was on playable conditions or not, when i took the vinyl out, i realized it wasn't the b52's album but a live 12" ep by devo! it was actually a pleasant surprise, even though i wanted the b52's album, i ended up with something better.

i love me some b52's, needless to say. i remember your b52's thread from the old board, wax.

i actualy used to have 2 vinyl copies of the first album, but i gave one away.
shouldnt be hard to find though
.
i cant dig cosmic thing, too 80's cheesey sounding for me.
at least it was, maybe its time to give it another go. but i remember about 6 years ago finding the first album and going crazy on it, listening to all the other albums trying to find something else i liked and finding i hated everything more or less.

Yah, you have to be ready for the 80s cheese factor, definitely. If you're in the right mood, it's great, though. Real nice on a bright spring day with the windows open.

yeah, ricky rocked. i think the orignal drummer took over on guitar after he died. check out that last video, the guitarist needs a good slap, making a mockery out of such a wicked riff, poncing about dressed up like a cunt.

sorry.

I got to see them when they reunited briefly in the '90s at a show at Athens' Legion Field. Ricky was gone, of course, but they played flawlessly.

The video for "Deadbeat Club" was shot right next door to where I was living when I first moved to Athens in the attic of the Chickasaw Muddpuppies' house. They also had a cool treehouse and Michael Stipe would drop by every now and then.

I've seen the Muddpuppies more times than any other act. People often mistook me for Ben Reynolds because out hair was the same length. Their sometimes drummer, Jim McKay went on to form C-00 films with Stipe.

i used to have the biggest crush on kate pierson!

but i luv fred.

does anyone else have "just fred", the album he did with guys from didjits, steve albini, 6 finger satellite & shadowy men from a shadowy planet?

it was ok, nothing great, but i was impressed that all those guys & steve albini would go out of their way to do that for fred.

It is impressive, but yeah, that album from what I remember...
I'm really impressed that Albini and Van Dyke Parks are producing Joanna Newsom.

never heard just fred.
i cant imagine liking him without the rest of the 52s.

of course, the first album is an all time classic. only one song on there that im not keen on, the rest are gems.

i have a massive crush on cindy as long as we can talk like its before 1984/ she was just gorgeous back then, then something terrible happened. id say it was age, but it seemed to happen too fast.
maybe something to do with her brother dying.
didnt she quit the b52s afte ricky died? she must have had a hard time cuz she looked like shit when she came back.
love shack video? she aint looking good.
