Hi Folks!
Is someone here who remembers the old SY newsgroup 'echo canyon'? At some point a CD project was started by the mebers of the NG and lots of members of the NG contributed songs and a CD was put together. Now my questions: Since I lost the old data.. I need the complete tracklist of the cd if possible and it would be great to get a jpg or something from the original cover artwork! Any help is greatly appreciated! thx + all best, n. |

I remember something about a cover record that I'm pretty sure got started on the echo canyon list. I also remember Chris Lawrence being "responable" for it in some way? Could be wrong tho. My band, Tenns Bafra, provided a smashing live version of Hendrix Necro. Pretty good, as I recall it.

yup,. the one nico99 refers to is the 'noisy touch' one i put together on alt.music.sonic-youth.....BUT alt.music.sonic-youth was a usenet newsgroup and echo canyon was a mailing list, so nila may be referring to another...

yes, sure... I remember.. you are perfectly right w/ this. it was not done by alt.music.sonic-youth. it was done by the members of the echo canyon ML! I will go deeper in my old cd archive and trying finding this cd.. but i am pretty sure i wont find any tracklist information etc. that could make this thing round + cool for sharing... so if you know someone from the old canyon days... any help is greatly appreciated! |

The good old dial up days. I remember reading the posts there without figuring out how to post myself.

wow i think i have vague recollection regarding a cd on that echo canyon mailing list - . I think my contribution, of which I didn't keep a copy for myself, never reached the one who was gathering the material
are there any archives of that mailing list? I wonder what kind of bullshit i was writing back then. i have no memory of a a.m.s-y cd |

Hm - I should still have that CD somewhere. Let me root through some storage boxes tonight, and I'll try to upload it.

Here's the "NOISY TOUCH" compilation. Back in the late 90s, tribute cassettes were all the rage on usenet newsgroups, and that's how this one started. Because I take forever to finish anything, it ended up being a CD-R.
I cut the last four songs off. One because its exclusion was requested by the performer, one because it's an awfully mixed (and masturbatory) version of "Mote" by me, and then a version of "She's in a Bad Mood" that's basically 6 minutes of coins being dropped and a girl reciting the title. If this is your track, I'm sorry! I've misplaced some of the artwork, but originally the idea was that the tracks weren't labeled in order, as some of the songs are radical reinterpretations. I've left the files unlabeled just to perpetuate the surprise element. I'm not sure any of these people are still lurking around - this is a decade old, after all... Speak up if you're out there! Otherwise, enjoy some weird and often entertaining spins on sonic classics (or not). http://www.mediafire.com/?18yu2t7yanc7p (...and yes, I know the name is awful. we had many unsuccessful threads on that topic...)
