What would you recommend? They have a lot of stuff, and I want to know which album I should get for starters. From what I have heard, I'm not big on their newer stuff...

I like them a lot from what I have heard, and I've known of them for so long that I feel almost ridiculous for just now trying to dig into them more. But it is what it is, and thanks for the suggestion

In The Court Of The Crimson King
Lark's Tongues In Aspic (ESSENTIAL) Red Lizard (only if you have a high tolerance for fey fantasy, though) |

RED is the best I think. Larks, of course. But the early 80's output is solid too w/Adrian Belew. Esp Discipline...

Larks' and Discipline are all you REALLY need. If you start to get obsessed with the band, get The Great Deceiver. A four disc box set of live stuff from the 70's, quite a bit of it is otherwise unreleased improv.

ItCotCK -> Larks' -> Red -> Discipline
In that order. If you like those four (or at least 2-3 of them), get the rest of their albums. |

It is understandable if you don't like their first album considering it sucks. Get the albums I mentioned instead.

Surprised to see all the Lizard lovers! I always thought people hated that one.
1. Red 2. Lizard 3. Discipline 4. Larks 5. Power to Believe are my favorites. |

Ok, I went with Red, Lizard, and Starless & Bible Black to start. So far, Lizard is my favorite.

Lizard, to me, was like NYC Ghost and Flowers. It took several listenings before I realized how good it was. A really tough listen at first, but became so excellent and totally different from the rest of their repertoire, BOTH bands !
Circus, Happy Family, Indoor Games....all masterpieces !!!
