Did we ever have a thread about melodies?
What are you favourite melodies? |

A real obvious one, but the insanely simple melody of Kraftwerk's "The Model" is always a keeper.
Also: Siouxsie's playful singing on die Banshees' "Happy House"; John Coltrane's supreme singing soprano on "My Favourite Things".

At the moment I am a big fan of Nick Cave's ''Are You The One I've Been Waiting For'', and Dinosaur Jr's ''Not The Same''. Excellent call on Coltrane, Melly. I love that man's music to bits.

I was playing guitar a minute ago and realised I was playing a melody from a keyboard keyring that I had when I was about 6 that I've possibly not thought about for over 20 years. I've had fucking Echo Beach stuck in my head the last day or so because someone's sampled it. The cads.

Oh, and Gloomy Sunday, I can't stop singing that to myself this last month or so.

Sarram - Right back at you for the Cave citation - it can often be overlooked that this big man's work contains some stirring melodies.

Well The Model has been said already.
I'm gonna go with Love will tear us apart.

I remember hearing a milkman whistling love will tear us apart. That's the real measure of a melody's strength, its whistlability for milkmen.

My favourite melody is the one in Winter's Way by the Laughing Clowns. I'm pretty sure it's based on Scarborough Fair. That melody is the reason why I got a saxophone.

A few of the obvious, possibly cliche, but still fucking amazing melodies (so fuck off) to start with...
Because-beatles-especially johns when his voice stays low and monotone while every other vocal part falcettos into harmonies and changes thru a few notes while he stays on that one note. God Only Knows-beach boys Anna-Pixies (joeys guitar melody, jesus fucking christ.) (don't laugh) "Somewhere over the rainbow" Anglefuck- Misfits |

Another favourite is Baroque by Malice Mizer. I think I've found where Mana got it from - Bach's BWV 1001.

I'm aware, I'm just one of those who likes to pretend that's the real title of the song. Rolls off the tongue better I think. I actually spelled it with one r originally, and went back and changed it. Shenannigans.
