Really quick:
got in late, so didn't really get to do anything in Barcelona Marseille is cool, I like that it isn't nearly as much of a tourist trap as other towns we went to. Florence was pretty cool- I got to see the Duomo and David. Rome was hot as hell, Colloseum was neat. Naples is really dirty, but Pompeii was the shit. Mykonos Greece looks like something out of Star Wars, and Delos was interesting, but not as cool as Pompeii. Also- Greeks seem to have no sense of time. They can not tell you when the next boat is coming, when the next train is coming, etc. Istanbul is an awesome city- I went to Hagia Sophia and it was beautiful. The blue mosque was really neat as well, and the byzantine Cisterns were cool too. Ephesus was a cool ruins site- not as cool as Pompeii to me- but the library face was pretty awesome. St. John's Basilica and the Shrine of St. Mary sort of felt lackluster. Athens was fun- I went to the acropolis. Venice looked cool, but was overall kind of a boring tourist trap that smelled a little and was dirty. |

My card is 128 megabytes, so I uploaded most of them to my uncle's laptop and I only have the ones on my card right now of Venice.

We were on a cruise ship. Grandparents. I wish I could have trained/backpacked/hosteled it up. Oh well. There were hot women all over in Athens, and Iggy Pop and Mudhoney are playing there today, if I can read flyers right. It said he was playing on the 5th, but the month was in greek, and I don't know greek worth crap.
But I pretty much took the train in from Piraeus and did Agora and Acropolis, then ate in the Plaka. |

BTW- you don't realize how fat america is until you leave and see how thin every countries are. Everytime I saw a fat person, I could instantly identify them as an American.
People thought I was German, and several turkish guys spoke German to me, and even with my horrible german accent and grammar still thought I was German. Even with my american accent speaking english, people weren't sure I was american. So yay me! Oh, on the cruise ship the other night they did a big July 4th thing (even though it was the 3rd, it was our last day) and there were a lot of UK'ers, and some of them didn't know what July the 4th was all about. Then again, the ship did Canada the same day, and I can't tell you what it signifies exactly, although I'd assume it would be Canada's independence. |

Hahahah, yeah, if you're in Greece be prepared to do some waiting. I love how they're just not arsed at all. I got a cab in Zante once and the driver was driving on the wrong side of the road most of the time. |

Yeah, people drive atrociously. Our cab driver was like that in Naples. I thought I was gonna die.
But yeah with the greeks- "when is the next boat back to mykonos coming?" "10-15 minutes" "we have to be back at 1, when does it leave?" "just wait, boat coming in 10-15 minutes" 40 minutes later the boat hadn't come yet and we were bribing our way onto a tourboat that was leaving for mykonos. In athens nobody at the metro could tell me how often the metro to piraeus left, and so I left a few hours early just incase. |

Lazy bastards and reckless driving aside, Greece is good for historical artifacts. If you ever return to Greece I reccomend going to Knossos on the island of Crete, that's where King Minos kept his Minotaur.

We figured it was just that they think any white person who isnt grotesquely fat, walking about semi naked burnt to lobster pink, swilling vast amounts of beer and seems vaguely interested in exploring the culture of the country can't be British or American, so by default you must be German, because they're the only other White tourists who visit Turkey. Also a lot of Turkish men went to Germany as migrant labourers in the 1970s, so they picked up the language. Even when we'd tell them we weren't German, they'd still speak German to us. This offical on the Izmir metro asked 'Sprechen sie Duetsch?' and when I said 'Ein Bischen', he seemed very confused, and it seemed he didn't speak any more German except that. I really liked going somewhere that hardly anyone spoke English, it's like going to Japan but cheaper! |

Yeah, someone said something along the lines of "bissen sie deutch?" to me, and I said "nein" so then they got really confused because I told them I wasn't german in german. So I kept trying to speak german to him, but he would only speak english to me once he found out.

I would have shrugged helplessly and then spoken in some fictional tongue, a gibberish one, made it sound sort of Russian but not really Russian.
Besides, bissen sort of means "snack" or "eat." He wasn't asking if you spoke German. He was asking if you ate either German cuisine or Germans. Not sure which, unless you gave me more context.
