From the Mustang site:

"[Dirty] was the first album where Lee and Thurston's guitars were completely isolated in their own speakers -- SY had heard a soundboard tape of a show from the previous tour mixed this way and really dug the separation, so they decided to try the technique on record. Lee's guitar is panned hard left, Thurston's is panned hard right."

This is one of the things I love about Dirty. I like to place my left speaker on my far left and my right speaker on my far right. Right from the beginning of 100%, it creates a cool effect. Bitches.

On EJSTNS, Lee is on the Right and Thurston is on the Left.

On Washing Machine, Lee is on the Left and Thurston is on the Right. Same for A 1000 Leaves, on some songs.

The ultimate effect for me is that it makes it easier to hear the two parts, which is great. When you can't see performers, it's nice to have a way of telling what each is doing.

When I was doing a transcription of Becuz, this came in very handy. God, I love that song.

it always feels like their guitars are dueling when they're split b/t left and right channel. it's pretty awesome.
