What a fantastic band, don't know if theres any fans here since its more electronica/shoegazey music but i thought i would go out on a limb, hopefully i dont get too shot down.
Saw these guys the other night and they were mindblowingly good, much better then i was expecting. Their new album "Saturdays=Youth" is amazing and i think it will be regarded as a masterpiece in a few years along with their previous effort "Before the Dawn Heals Us". anyone care to discuss? |

I quite liked some tunes on the Saturdays=Youth album, was that the latest one? I wouldn't go as far as to say itwill be regarded as a masterpiece though.

I love them. Saturdays=Youth ended up on my NR TOP TEN 2008 list. Search for thread if you give a F.

yeah they were amazing live too. a very loud and almost psychedelic show, great lights too.
my one thing that i definately think is that he should keep Morgan Kibby (who did vocals on S=Y and tours with him) as a permanent member. she was just as important as he was in the show, and her keyboard and vocal parts were often the highlight of many amazing songs |

I agree that she had a HUUUGE part in the best songs on there. BUT one thing I love about M83 is that each album seems totally different to a degree. And a lot of that has to do with lineup shifts.

Yeah, Morgan Kibby is awesome. Her vocals made some songs sound really cool. I would like to see her come back. But if she doesn't I hope he finds someone else who is just as good, or better

There is a thread about them somewhere, I distinctly remember that, but I am too lazy and fucked up on codeine to look.
A lot of their songs are weird, because they have these really beautiful, amazing parts but the songwriting is almost always awful. There is no real flow to a lot of their songs (specifically on the last few albums), it's just this weird cut and pasting of sections. Look at a song like "Don't Save Us From the Flames" (which I love, actually), it just feels like these disconnected parts put together.. it doesn't always work, and it makes the songs all feel kinda just.. eh. They don't tell much of a story, they just have one cool part, then maybe a shitty part, then a cool part, etc. A small criticism but something I noticed. They have some other songs, though, that just build and build and build. I love those. I think his older albums are way better. Saturdays=Youth bored the hell out of me. I really like this band, actually, but I don't LOVE them. They do have some really great songs though, so yeah. |

I really like Before the Dawn Heals Us but S=Y didn't do anything for me.

I've noticed that a lot of people tend to either like their first couple, and not S=Y, or vice versa. I like all their albums. In different ways. I really loved S=Y. And I think DEAD CITIES is my favorite.

"A Guitar and a Heart"!
Something about that song, I dunno. It's kinda cheesy but it's awesome. |

They have some really pretty songs. I dig em. In fact I was just listening to S=Y the other day. That one I didn't like so much at first, but it has kinda grown on me now.
