Moments in love.
“I pity weak men: They should be dragged out into the middle of the street, beaten, humiliated, degraded and sodomized by my friends and me just for sport. I love seeing weak men cry—my heart races.” Diamanda Galas http://www.arthurmag.com/2009/01/25/...008/#more-3900 |

A good interview. Thanks.
I don't know what it is about Diamanda Galas. She seems to be forever locked in the 1980s. I can't put my finger on what it is but she always seems frozen in some kind of mythical 1985 for some reason. |

She seems unhappy.

Why does she say that she pities weak men but then say that that should be done to them? How can she "love seing that" if she feels pity for them? It's a bit of a contradiction indicating that she is just improvising to shock rather than this being an actual opinion of hers. I hate imature people like this who overcompensate their emotional vulnerability. Strong people don't need to go out of their way to show that they are strong. |

Personally, I stopped reading that interview the minute she started waffling on about Judy Garland.

I haven't read much of the interview but the way she is described just smacks of ressentiment just like with any other goth/punk/emo.

I was fantasising about marrying her the whole time I was reading that. I don't really go in for celebrity crushes any more, but I'd totally break my own legs to marry Diamanda.

I wonder if the same is true for most "experimental" musicians these days. Maybe they turn to experimentation because if they played more traditional music their lack of talent would shine through.
EDIT - this is a continuation of my previous post not a reply to Glice |

WRONG. Not in Diamanda's case. You're probably right for a lot of experimental musicians - in fact, I'd mostly agree - but not Diamanda. No no no.

You're so wrong to describe Diamanda as 'experimental', and demonrail as '80's'. People don't have respect for geniuses anymore . |

Did Lurker describe me as 80s? The cheeky sod. Have to say I'm flattered by the genius comment though. Thanks.

Anyway, I definitely don't think Diamanda is a fraud by any means. Regarding the 80s thing, I honestly don't know what it is but there's something about her that just immediately makes me think of that decade. Did she ever release anything on Mute records or play at the ICA? Both of those tend to scream 80s at me.
