Well, quit wasting yer time chatting in some stupid chat room and get out there and make a buck. Then you could afford an LP now and then. Sheesh...

People who complain about the price of new vinyl and think that CDs are priced reasonably obviously have no clue about the processes and costs involved in producing either one.

Word.

In all reality, CDs should be about half what they are. LPs, considering the process, are actually fairly reasonable.

And considering the cost of a CD or LP compared to many other forms of entertainment, I think the cost is fairly reasonable. Think how many times you come back to your favorite CDs and LPs.

Though I'm old enough to remember when LPs were only 3.98 to 4.98 in the 1960s, with double LPs sometimes around 7.98, and that was full retail--most good stores took a buck or two off that! Even through my college years in the 70s, LPs were rarely more than 7 bucks. So I do feel a little uncomfortable paying triple or even quadruple that these days for a new pressing.

30 years' worth of inflation combined with a dwindled/niche market.
Besides, most LPs are priced fairly, and many are at break-even levels. Shit is incredibly expensive, especially the covers. Any LPs I have released have had a lot of hands-on manual effort put into the covers to save money. Printing full-bleed glossy LP sleeves costs about four times what the actual vinyl production run will cost you. I still don't know how Southern Lord is breaking even on that SunnO))) and Boris 3xLP I bought for $23.00 at retail. Bookbound, glossy pages, full color, printed innersleeves, colored vinyl (which also costs extra, and vinyl production isn't cheap in any case).
A lot of the stuff I want is priced higher because of exchange rates sometimes, but that's something I have no control over. I'll pay for quality.

This is all true. I've picked up terrific new presses for 10 to 14 bucks recently, like Shellac and Slint on Touch & Go. I'm not complaining. Not really.

Usually the more expensive stuff is a lot of the vintage 1960s represses on Sundazed. But it's all very nicely done, so I don't mind plunking down a little more coin.

As I say, LPs definitely hold their entertainment value for the buck, at least for me.

well polyvinyl chloride is more scarce than regular plastic, and also one of the worst types of plastics in the world in the environmental sense. The process takes a lot more too than a CD

If you sold a kidney, you could buy all the CDs you want. There is another way, though - *cough*Soulseek*cough*

There ya go! Then you can burn them to digital vinyl discs and pretend they're LP's!
