i'd go with crooked rain or slanted, but slanted is more of a grower.

I've only heard Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain and Slanted and Enchanted, but they both make me want to get more Pavement. I'd say either of those would be fine.
My understanding is you really can't go wrong with them. |

I only own Crooked Rain - Deluxe edition. I picked it up secondhand for $3.50 (Which is like $2 something US) in mint condition still in it's wrapper, unused. Fantastic purchase.

I think Crooked Rain Crooked Rain is by far there most accesible album, and is also my personal favourite. Slanted and Enchanted however, has a fantastic raw appeal to it. All of them are a good investment actually, you cant go wrong with Pavement!

I would get one of the 2-disc reissues: Slanted & Enchanted, Crooked Rain Crokked Rain, or Wowee Zowee. CR,CR is probably the easiest to get into and is my personal favorite, but you really cant go wrong with any of them. Those three are absolute must-haves.
If you like what you hear on those, move to Westing (by musket and sextant) which compiles the bands early singles and e.p.s. Then move onto Brighten the Corners and finally Terror Twilight. The last two are great albums, but not quite as good as the first three. |

Invest in? You make it sound so serious.
But I like Slanted and Crooked Rain best.
