Pan's Labyrinth is a modern masterpiece. It will seen in years to come as one of the truly great films - certainly the defining moment of fantasy cinema.

Make sure you see its companion piece The Devil's Backbone (released a few years ago) too, if you haven't done so already.

Guillermo del Toro (spelling?), the writer/producer etc, was on Radio Five recently, talking about the two films and how they should be seen side by side. As soon as Pan's Labyrinth is out on DVD that's exactly what I'll be doing.

The Devil'sBackbone is another favourite of mine:

I've seen "Pan's Laybrinth" and its one of the best films I've ever seen. I give it my highest reccomendation. The film is gorgeous but it also has a wondeful story. I have not seen "The Devil's Backbone" although its not on my must see list and will be renting it from Netflix. "Pan's Laybrinth" is a must see. I saw it with my mom and she isn't the biggest fan of fantasy/sci-fi films and even she ended up really liking it.

Pan's Labyrinth was pretty great. I loved how the political side of the film fit so well with the little girl's fantasy world...it's visually amazing. Sad though:/

Letters From Iwo Jima sounds cool, as well as Flags of Our Fathers. I wonder which one is better.

iwo jima, i saw the synopsis, i like the fact that it presents not the ethnocentric american POV we're all tired of. an innovation in that sense.

i havent seen it probably wont catch it

here a surprise-- im in fucking park city utah right now (where the sundance film festival is happening)

im trying to get tickets for whatever i can get.

but being the first night here i got plastered. now im supposed to finish an article but i'm a) plastered b) not plastered enough c) hungry.

what to do...

ah, for the record-- this place is hype central--hilarious! a bar i snuck into was "the place where musicians meet filmmakers"--- ha ha ha ha! fucking hype...

ok sorry the movie the movie...

pans labyrinth first of all maribel verdU she is so fucking beautiful she looks like a deer. the story is brilliant and the tragedy is those fucking fascists won.

i went thinking it was a hm a what a fairy tale like the labyrinth? but it wasnt! i was like "where is david bowie going to show up w/ the funky hair?" but no, no he didn't but it was better, much better, because that movie fucking told the truth about those bastards. not that the anarchists were much better! well actually they were...

Well Both sides suck, but the anarchist where better. They would not have killed Lorca. Have you seen any celebs in sundance? I never pay attention.

Pan's Labyrinth was entertaining.

Devil's Backbone was fucking brilliant.

Not gonna go ahead and throw the word "genius" around when it comes to Del Toro. He's still a little stuffy when dealing with his own material and completely fucking blows it when interpreting others'. Boy's got talent, though, I'll tell ya that.

anyway hm what else? the hype is everywhere!! there's gotta be a screenplay there.

oh wait!!
