His MOVIES album is really fascinating. Embarrassed I haven't heard more of his solo stuff.

From Can:
"Holger Czukay, 24.3.1938 - 5.9.2017 We are very sad to confirm that Holger passed away yesterday, in his home, the old CAN Studio in Weilerswist. His wife U-She passed away only weeks before. Holger was devastated by the loss of his beloved partner, but was looking forward to making more music and was in good spirits. His passing has come as a shock. We will post more information about funeral arrangements shortly." Very sad. Another great one gone. RIP |

Definitely a big loss, but at least he lived a long time and was clearly interested in pushing things forward and staying vital. I'm glad I got to see him once. Hard to believe that was 20 years ago. I didn't know his wife had died so recently. That kind of thing happens a lot. Another giant is gone.

A friend of mine was a huge fan of Can in general and Holger in particular. For years he had show on a local community radio station called On The Way To The Peak Of Normal (which I guest hosted a number of times), named after a Czukay solo album. For the first few years of the show, the album's title track was the theme song for the show. I feel bad about Czukay's passing but I'm sure my old friend feels worse. I haven't spoken to him in quite a while--maybe now is the time to get back in touch.
