I bought Evol on vinyl on Friday, the Blast First version. I've owned the CD since for about 20 years and know it back to front (also Blast First version) but hearing the LP...Fuck! The sound is SO much better, there're dimensions of audio missing from the CD! Some parts of songs sound distinctly different. This isn't the first time I've compared vinyl and CD versions of albums before but I wasn't expecting so a vast difference between the two formats. Maybe I'm overegging it because I'm so familiar with the CD of Evol that any slight deviation is startling, but I don't think so, it's very clearly different.

Anyway, have any of you noticed this difference, is it as dramatic a difference on any of their other records?

From my own experience, EVOL and Sister on vinyl have much more detail than compared to their CD equivalents.

it's been 20 years since EVOL and Sister were last rereleased on CD, they BMR and CIS are prime for a remastering

I'm just going to pick up the OG vinyl, that copy of Evol was surprisingly reasonably priced (Ģ14)

I have it only on CD, and I'd really like to get the vinyl edition because of the addictive locked groove at the end of "Expressway"! I could spend all night listening to that ∞... Probably not too healthy for the stylus, though.

Yes, you really should have it! One reason also is, that I donīt still think Bubblegum belongs to EVOL. Expressway ending to that locked groove is just perfect ending to an perfect album (I have never listening it very long time, maybe Iīll do it someday). I think locked groove is not in re-releases or is it?

BTW have to get that version of Metal Machine Music where is locked groove.

After little research in Discogs this http://www.discogs.com/Lou-Reed-Meta...elease/1746652 seems to be only vinyl version without locked groove (I think itīs also in that 2010 reissue). Also this version doesnīt have gatefold covers. Well maybe european RCA at first didnīt believe the album will sell anything so they didnīt want to promote it any way. Anyway I can buy any of those versions with locked groove.

The version I indicated DOES end up in a locked groove, it's gatefold, 180 gram, and "contains a stereo reproduction of the original quadraphonic master, playable on home theatre systems".

hmmm... Who still buys cds nowadays?

How many times are they still gonna reissue these albums?

You can still readily got the "out-of-print" versions... i don't get it.

I have mixed feelings about reissues... I mean buying the original album, and then rebuying the same album only to me makes it justifiable if it has some extras (i.e. bonus tracks)

and the whole 180 grm vinyl craze is blown out a proportion, because yeah it is denser higher quality vinyl but often it also attracts more dust, making them noisey... i rather buy a solid original copy if possible and be done with it.

sorry, i stray and vent.

I havenīt noticed very much difference between 180g and 140g (or whatever that "normal" vinyl is). Anyway I donīt have both versions of same vinyl to compare, but I have those 50 & 60 John Lee Hooker vinyls both in 180 & that other grams and they all sound to me just great. I am not very hi-fi person so maybe thatīs the reason I donīt find any difference. And to buy a reissue to me is just for then when it`s almost impossible to find the original or the price is high. I have only few vinyls twice & the reason I have them is the differences in covers.
