I tend to always forgive people, even when they are still mad at me. an hour is about the longest that I can carry any grudge and I think that it's bad for the soul to hold it any longer.
I know people that can harbor bad feelings for a long time, but that's just not me. this afternoon, my mother called me to tell me that my (last) grandfather was put into the hospital today and he is expected not to make it. under normal circumstances, this would be really bad news, but honestly, I don't give a fuck. I hate the bastard. I really want to find a way to find forgiveness for him prior to his death, but I just can't do it. there are many reasons why I don't like him, but one the thing that bothers me the most: I was helping my grandmother out of her chair because her bones were brittle and her back was broken. he was jealous that my grandmother seemed to like me more than him, so he slapped my hand away while I was holding hers while helping her up. the medicine that she took for asthma (prednisone) also made her skin thin, so her hand pretty much came off like a glove into mine when he hit it. needless to say, it fucked me up pretty bad. I really think that I hate him, and I hate that I feel that way. |

as soon as someone says sorry.
i've noticed that really shitty people never say sorry, so my practice seems to work... the bitch who cheated on me never said sorry.. the dad i haven't seen in 13 years except at various funerals never said sorry.. etc... |

Sounds like a heavily antiquated old douchebag to me, though I'm not sure where the blame lies. The 20th century was a motherfucker- I never wonder why old people are so grumpy when I think of the shit they had to deal with. Forgiveness is also a bit of a tricky customer. Jesus was a big fan of it, so I obviously have to make an effort to forgive as much as possible, being Catholic and whatnot. It's hard. But nothing that was ever worth doing came easy, did it?

I think I'm pretty successful at surrounding myself with decent people. My grandparents (now passed on) where wonderful people and rather socially liberal for their age.
But I can be an unforgiving, passive aggressive prick when given the motivation. |

Some say that forgiveness is the sweetest revenge. I think it's the only way to deal with the past.

imho forgiving is more about healing yourself than the other person.

it depends on what someone has done to me. i forgive most people for most things but there are a few people in my life who i cannot do it for.

be glad that you'll soon be pissing on his grave. sounds like a real jackass & that episode about the "glove" freaked me out too. your poor grandma... see, this is the thing: your hate keeps you away from him, and that's a good thing. he's not a character you'd want to emulate, evidently. sounds like a real fucker. if it's any consolation, just imagine the torment that his inner life has been. of course that's a little passive agressive, but since he's too old for your to beat up, what are you gonna do? dance on his grave, of course -- i usually forgive easily, right after i get even with interest. |

Woah, I didn't know they give prednisone for asthma. That's a horrible story. My mom was on heavy prednisone after her liver transplant last year and you couldn't even touch her without her skin just either coming off or bruising horribly. It was really frightening and I emphasize with your anger. He must be a twisted old man. I hold resentment for a long time. This older kid who bullied me all through grade school died last year, was a prick even as an adult, had a heart attack at age 41 and I cheered. |

Man floatingslowly he really does seems like a rotten apple. It reminds me of my other grandpa who is currently dead, and he would abuse my grandma, and so my family stopped talking to him. Then he saw me in the dollar store when I was little and said "your mom's a bitch" to my bro and I.
I didn't attend his funeral, but I wish I knew him more because he's the next closest person to my dad other than my brothers. I'm like Touch Me I'm Sick. I've had people that genuinely said sorry, and they either didn't mean to do it or will never do it again, so I'll certainly forgive them. Then if they repeat it, I usually won't. Then if they did it again I certainly won't. But sometimes it's really hard when missing people...

I usually forgive, but do not forget. I also don't trust most people so I don't let people get the best of me, so I hardly have anyone to do some damage to me.

I am horrible at staying mad at people. I just can't do it! I don't know if that's good or bad...
