Anyone see them on their UK tour?
So good, most fun band I've ever seen probably.

Love these ladies! Looking forward to seeing them again here soon. Their "666" LP is just out recently, and it's a slayer.

Jenna from Mika Miko is also in this really great band called Silver Daggers who have an LP/CD on Load out recently and a split 7" w/ Shearing Pinx. And they sound a lot like Dogfaced Hermans...

My friends band played a show with them and ended up getting two of them real drunk and the third one got super pissed off and they almost broke up.

Silver Daggers are even better live than on that record. I quibble a little with the urgency level of the album--not sure if it's the performance or the production--but that band's live show has had the same kinda impact as seeing Lightning Bolt in a tiny living room...or something approaching close to that. The record's still pretty good, and both of these bands are among my absolute faves going today.
I know of a few very new bands that started specifically because all the members were at the same Mika Miko show and became inspired. Few bands have that kinda potential to spark such a reaction. If Mika Miko were around back in the early to mid-90's, I think their "666" LP would rate among the very best records of the riot grrl era (which, if you think about it, not a lot of those records have stood the test of time). I played the rarest Mika Miko song on vinyl on the latest AFS--"Challenge the Throne" from the "Treasure Tropics" 4-band 7" comp--so go hear it if you like (you might find it very difficult to hear any other way). It's one of their best recordings. When Jenna was a guest DJ on an AFS show last year, she played a Rubella Ballet song, and her musical sensibilities all began to make sense to me.

Totally man. It's because that stuff isn't as big as it was which is stopping this album being huge.

I saw them live here in Ottawa. The only reason I saw them was actually because I went to see my former co-worker's band open up. They were good, but they had their thunder stolen by the Quebec band Thundrah, who gave me a free CD for dancing .
Although I did buy both the CDs they were selling, and introduced them to the awesomeness that is the two-dollar coin. My girlfriend didn't like them much, but now she REALLY wants a telephone microphone to sing into. She refers to them in conversation as the 'pointy boob girls' we saw. I might have liked them more if they put the sax to more use! It's just not an instrument you hear often anymore. And it made them sound kinda x-ray spex. Prob half the reason I like Silver Daggers is the basic fact that sax is involved |

Just discovered those girls, they're really awesome and fun! I love the telephone mic idea. Also am I the only one thinking that this sounds a bit like that early SY noisefest show with Ann Demarinis? Maybe it's just the fact that there is two women singing but well
