at first i kinda just wrote them off as one of those "younger kid novelty bands" (as i refer to them), but i just listened to their cover of bull in the heather and i kinda like it. so my question is, what does the rest of their stuff sound like? thank you in advance.

I meant bands that formed in the last 8 years or so. I was pretty much being sarcastic anyway. Battles are the only recent band that I like, but that doesn't mean the rest suck.

Their original songs are a bit too poppy for my tastes. I did appreciate their cover of Bull in the Heather though.

I like them, I found their first album a bit boring but still very good singles (Ladyflash and Huddle Formation), but their second one is really very good, the songs are really catchy and that's all I ask them. Grip Like A Vice and the song with Chuck D in particular are great

Yes, they're worth listening to. I liked their first album a lot. Haven't gotten the second one yet.

The Go! Team are a fantastic joyful wondrous thing. And though the end-product is not remotely similar, you can certainly hear a SY influence at times (notably the start of Junior Kickstart, before the horns come in). Both albums are worth a listen, but Proof Of Youth suffers from diminishing returns.
Battles, on the other hand, do my fucking head in. |
