A matter of some small and insignificant controversy: The relationship of the internet to grammar and syntactical deviations, with specific reference to this board.
I personally get moderately-to-quite irritable at the proliferation of poor linguistic expositions. I realise this is probably incredibly irritating, and hence I rarely raise my reservations. I do, however, severely dwindle in my appreciation of a poster who persistently post in a lacklustre and poorly spelt/ structured fashion. There are those who transgress said pedantry - myself, obviously, and the others who use anti-grammatical devices in the name of comedy. Generally though, I should like those who find themselves irritated to make themselves known herewith. I should also like those who find the pedantry irritating to try and provide some kind of defence. The likelehood of this defence being in any way articulate is small - it may, however, be amusing. *Edit - yes, thanks for pointing out I spelt 'palimpsest' wrong. Wanker.

Good grammar is a very worthy cause, except when I start a reply to someone's post and spend so long checking my grammar that my reply has been superceded by the time I post it.
I want the forum to have spell check, please. |

The patronizing word should be a more apt term in some cases.English is not my first language but i do get irritated by abbreviated spelling a lot.Especially when people do it through text messages.

I confess to using brackets with rather more regularity than convention dicates. The same probably applies to hyphens too. But I'm somehow resisting the urge to employ them in this post, so there is some hope.
Sometimes yay, sometimes nay. The bad grammar bothers me a little when it's avoidable, but when it's a minor technicality or due to an imperfect ability in a second language it's not a problem.

I concur, naturally. I have a certain annoyance with my own use of 'however' and 'the former/ latter...', which just makes me sound like a tossbag.
I rarely find that the second-languagers are the ones that get on my wick. Oh, I think we've had this thread before, no?

It's 'employing', my dear self, 'employing'. One uses a hammer, one employs brackets. Annoying and utterly avoidable. When will you learn? Tschh.

being articulate and caring about grammer is a plus..
but no need to overindulge in rules.. the more free the expression is, more flavor you derive from sincerity.. but again i agree with glice and hip priest..

I'm horrendously poor when it comes to grammar, and I occasionally get stuck in the sentence I'm typing and can't solve it the way I want. I feel my grammatic knowledge has been deteriorating since high school senior year. I'm ashamed.
On the other hand my vocabulary is now slighly more diverse, but I hate it when people use unfamiliar terms, phrases and idioms, which I then type into freedictionary.com and realize it's just some fancy synonym for completely common word etc. |

Agreed. Begone the barbarous benidiction of prolixitous peristalsis! Out, the vile vicessitudes of un-Godly grammatical ghoulishness! We must, rigid and firm, stand tall against the cathachresis, the catachismic chiasmas which enbolden only our aching frustrations.
