i return to canada in a week, pretty depressing really i've had enough of the place, although not living in alberta would help in many ways

The Tragically Hip and Don Cherry are from Kingston. It's fairly isolated, but still within driving distance to Toronto. Not that TO is great, but there are things to do there, and lots of bands come to play.

i know kingston pretty well, my parents have lived there for four years.

Yeah because it is just right around the corner and artists can cover travel expenses really easily.

Their tour usually includes Seattle, its not hard (well sometimes it is) to cross the border and enjoy one of Canada's largest cities.
