ah Blue Velvet, my favorite flick.
johnnywinternoshow* beat me to that. During Ben's (Dean Stockwell's) serenade to Frank (Hopper) the idea of using a work light as a microphone was an improvisational move by Dean who is an old friend of Dennis. Lynch uses the music again in the scene on the side of the road with Jeffrey (MacLachlan) & Frank. a very good Blue Velvet review from Slant Magazine, 2002: http://ofcs.rottentomatoes.com/click/movie-1002730/reviews.php?critic=movies&sortby=default&page=2&ri d=316020 (it's "woos" not "woes" though...probably a typo) a less flattering pic: http://www.pimpadelicwonderland.com/hopper.html relates some of his wild side. I was looking online for some of the tales about his times out at his previously-owned-by-D.H. Lawrence Taos, NM ranch he bought & his ranch in Mexico from the shooting of his The Last Movie, during the editing of which, he self-admittedly lost his mind & went insane. There's some colorful accounts to these tales in Peter Biskind's Easy Riders, Raging Bulls: How the Sex-Drugs-and-Rock 'N' Roll Generation Saved Hollywood book which was made into a documentary in 2003. imdb link http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0359203/ bbc article http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcfour/documen...y-riders.shtml He spent some time in psychiatric wards & rehab hospitals after his breakdown & returned to Hollywood with the one-two punch of Blue Velvet & Hoosiers in 1986. He was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role as Shooter. |
