They were in Finland 2005 or 2006. I tried to buy a ticket in internet, but all the tickets were sold out in two minutes.

You must not have listened to that much Birthday Party since Grinderman sounds nothing like BP. It's entirely it's own thing. |

Yeah this. The only similarities are that Cave is singing and it's kinda Stooges-influenced (but in a very different way to BP) other than that everything is different. Grinderman has no tribal drums, the basslines don't have that big thick sound, the guitars aren't scratchy, Cave isn't screaming the whole time. Not similar at all.

I think it would be ridicilous, if Grinderman will try to be like Birthday Party. I think there is same kind of aggression, but Grinderman perform it much mature way than Birthday Party. Grinderman doesnīt try to be something they arenīt. The Stooges "Weirdiness" is good example of that, when old men try to be as "rock" as they are young. I think there is something same in Bad Seeds latest album and Grinderman first, though Bad Seeds are not so rough anymore. I think youth is very overrated in western countries. If you think everyone who is middleaged become boring (house cars good job wife kids etc) youīre wrong. But you have to accept, that you are not the same when you come in middle-age. I donīt need the aggression of young bands anymore, because Iīm not young anymore. And I think the young bands today have so different thing than in my youth that it doesnīt work to me. Of course itīs very good, if young persons find same kind of new bands as Birthday Party was in my youth and feel the old bands boring. |

I finally got the new album last week and itīs just Great!!!! First time I listened it, I didnīt know, do I like it or not. But it hit me totally second time!!! Itīs little bit different than the first one.
I made the comparison to the Birthday party and now I say that if the both band were plants, they grow on the same ground but are different plants, maybe relatives. And that ground is mean, twisted blues. I think both bands have same attitude: make own kind of blues based music with big feelings!!! I think it was very good idea from Nick Cave to put up Grinderman, because it has done good also to Bad Seeds. I like Abatoir Blues/Lyre Of Orpheus a lot, but I think there is something stale. After exellent Grinderman album the Bad Seeds also made excellent Dig Lazarus Dig, that sounds to me musc fresher that Abatoir/Lyre. |

After loving and then returning to the first grinderman record, this new one sounds even better. I'm glad Cave decided to break away from the bad seeds and do this instead as his other band hasn't excited me in a while. He understands the principle of an artist is to stay fresh and to achieve that you need to experiment and try different things over sitting in your "safety zone'.

I havenīt also seen them live. BUT on the other hand, Nick Cave is person who can say something spontane, not meaning it to be taken whole serious.

What the fuck is all of this Grinderman sounds like Birthday Party shit. Just a simple NO NO NO! Listen again. I've seen BP and NC and the Bad Seeds and Grinderman and they are all completely different. The Birthday Party were of a time and place and simply a wonderful time in Australian music with other great acts like the Saints and the Scientists. Grinderman are good I go and see them (last week actually) and they are good live but not great. I just don't get people saying that BP and GM are the same.
