Mostly looking for songs to RUN to. My friends don't have really good suggestions, because most of them are pretty inactive. If I look online or type "best running songs" a lot of hip hop current top singles come up or just... HORRIBLE things that don't interest me. Do you guys have any idea? I do run to some Sonic Youth tracks but looking for other songs. I have listened to these SO MUCH...
Here are some things I run to: Berlin - The Metro Soft Cell - Sex Dwarf Nirvana - Turnaround Smiths - Still Ill Ramones / Negative Approach / Black Flag MISC Kit - Invocation, Rain The Faint - Mote Wipers - Is this Real, Return of the Rat Stevie Nicks - Edge of Seventeen The Sound - Unwritten Law Sweet - a bunch of different tracks New York Dolls - Trash Swans - Love of Life Nick Lowe - So it Goes Metallica - Fight Fire with Fire, Eye of the Beholder, etc Brian Eno - Needles in the Camel's Eye Pixies, Break my Body, Debaser Le Tigre - Deceptacon Magazine - My Mind Aint So Open Journey - Don't Stop Believin Foreigner - Urgent, Double Vision Blondie - Hanging on the Telephone Liars - various tracks Johnny Thunders - All by Myself Kind of a mix of punk, classic rock, and so on. I'm pretty open, as long as it gets me going and feeling good. |

In my running days, I used to find Loop's cover of Can's "Mother Sky" had a great rhythm to keep time too. Led Zep's "Kashmir" worked pretty well too.

Thanks, I'll check out that song. Probably a bunch of Led Zeppelin would work...
Bummed... I thought you guys would have a TON of good recommendations. |

I've been trying to not be so sedentary. Mostly it's not working, but when it does, I have found that a lot of the Kraut/Komische stuff fulfills the need for a steady beat, and is not aesthetically disgusting like most of the music people seem to use for this purpose. I've thought about maybe using Bo Diddley too.

I did an entire radio show/podcast of "Jams for Your Inner Jock"...
http://artforspastics.blogspot.com/2...nner-jock.html Most notable omission... The Hospitals "Rich People", which steals the riff from the ubiquitous college sports pep-band staple "Go! Fight! Win!", and "Airplanes There". You could also just dwell a lot on songs with the motorik rhythm which is very conducive for running since you can adjust your gait to match the rhythm. "Negativland" by Neu! or "Mother Sky" by Can are probably the most definitive of such songs. But hirsute_biped has already alluded to that by just recommending Krautrock as a genre.

The whole "Angel Dust" album by Faith No More is good in many ways, and I love doing some exercising to that one..

yes, I second that. I used to listen to mainly electronic stuff while exercising, everything with a decent rhythm will do. Por ejemplo. Anybody has a surplus copy of the record? |
