the cramps at napa state mental asylum, johnny cash at san quentin, sy at brighton beach, they've all been done, but if you could watch any band perform live at any location in the world, who would it be, and where?

Interesting thread. I would have loved to see the faces of those psychiatrists when the Velvets played at one of their conventions. Apparently one of them was quoted as saying that the whole band and the dancers seriously needed some sleep and some tranquillizers. Let me think of an imaginary one.

Pink Floyd sort of spoilt it, but the idea of seeing a pre-crap Can playing the ampitheatre at Pompeii gives me a bit of a lob on.

Always loved the idea of Merzbow playing at G.A.Y and scaring all the queens off. Robbie Williams in a vomitorium.

Any Sadistik Exekusion show.
Scum era Napalm Death show. Any Slugfuckers show. Whitehouse before laptops. Any Suicide show where you could hear them properly (not a reunion show though). The Stooges before they had proper songs. Sleep performing Dopesmoker (if they did) First four album era Black Sabbath

Are you asking about seeing a concert that HAS occured in history? Like if I said, "I would have liked to have seen Woodstock 69"? Or a fantasy like "I want to see Slayer play at the Vatican" or "Jimi Hendrix playing on the Moon"?

La Monte Young, Tony Conrad, John Cale, Angus MacLise, Marian Zazeela, NYC, 1965.
VU, SF, 69. Blue Cheer, SF, 68/69. Albert Ayler, NYC, 1964. Randy Holden, SF, 70. As for Suicide, I went to see them at Max's Kansas City once when I was 15 or 16. It was a hot, steamy NYC summer evening and the upstairs was unbearable. I went outside and listened to the band through the open windows with Klaus Nomi, leaning against a car. Also seen them with The Ramones and Runaways at the Palladium around the same time. Those were the days. |
