I uploaded this treat for you all..
rich woodson's ellipsis - the nail that stands up, gets hammered down http://www.sendspace.com/file/kfo6gi (60mb) Simply put, the most challenging, uncompromising, insane, ridiculous, complex, and MUSICAL album I've probably ever heard. Made with nothing but acoustic instruments, it took 3 years to write these 40+ minutes, and not a single bit is improvised. Sounds like the most complex Harry Partch works being covered by an avant-progressive ensemble who decided to play jazz for this evening. If you're the least bit interested in avant-prog, modern classical, free jazz, or you just want to hear a band that makes RUINS sound like easy-listening, give this a shit. I'll upload the other album later. http://www.richwoodson.com/ "Note for note, there is more musical information in just a few seconds of Nail than some artists manage to express in an entire discography." - Brad Glanden, All About Jazz "...writing tightened all the way down to the last belt-hole—ultra-meticulous, intensely obsessional, and reliably maniacal." - Stephanie Fourger "...a true Art, striking for its freshness and depth alike ...." - Progressor, progressive rock zine "A 40-minute orgy of beautiful dissonance! ....an absorbing, lively, but challenging piece of music." - Lord chimp "Woodson’s autonomous approach to jazz dwells within a world of its own ....certainly one to watch!" - Glenn Astrita |

Honestly, this isn't music for everyone, but anyone who wants to get their brain expanded should check it out. For one thing, it makes every math rock band people on this board jack off over look like a fucking joke. This is truely how these bands should compose their music. So perfect, so intricate, so full of little details, yet unbelievably musical while at the same time being frightening complex. You know, no offense to those bands, but obviously people are attracted to the, um, "mathy" portions of their music.... trust me, this is 1000000000000x better.
Here's his other album CONTROL AND RESISTANCE, which is ever better than the one I posted above!: http://www.sendspace.com/file/wovuxi (38mb) |

You know Derek, I dunno if you'd like it. Might as well take the plunge and get the one album that's like 38mb. If nothing else you'd find it.. interesting.

reminds me of an acoustic scissor shock (there's an idea for ya haha).
actually it's sort of similar to the new Kayo Dot, especially the dissonance driven woodwind parts. |

hahaha... it definitely inspires me sure.
Yeah, I can see a kayo dot connection. It's just so.. I mean... listen to any 10 second part of any song and there are so many musical connections happening all at once, all these parts feeding off each other.. it just blows my mind.. I can't explain it. |

Hmm. Downloading. There was a Candian chap who composes music electro-acoustically and is absurdly fastiduous, down to 10ths of seconds... with I could remember his name.

This is not unpleasant, but it doesn't sound so vastly different to a lot of British Free Improv records to my ears. It's a bit Art Ensemble of Chicago as well. Not bad, mind you.
