I apparently read at 185 words per minute with 73% comprehension*. I don't know if that is good or bad. But I still feel like I am reading at a very slow pace. It has been taking me about 20 minutes to read 10 pages in the book I am currently reading (the Good Earth), and the 185 wpm is pretty accurate when you crunch the numbers.
So anyway: Do any of you guys have any tips on increasing the speed at which I read? *I used this website

why do you want to read fast?
EDIT - i got 200 wpm on screen which is 240 wpm on paper w/ 91% comprehension. i liked how they translated it to paper to, while i was reading i was thinking about how its not fair because im reading a computer screen. but really why does it matter how fast you read.

I read 199 words per minute with 55% comprehension.
My excuse is that it was boring, my mind wanders when I read things that bore me.

I just read stuff.
I scored in the 99th percentile on standardized tests in English-related areas. I have no idea what my "speed and comprehension" rating is, but I'm not a speed demon. Speed reading is just a pissing contest. Some people read faster, some read slower. Big deal. Comprehension and retention are far more important. |

I think it depends on what you're reading. Some things are much easier to read (say about half of the posts on this board) because they aren't of any importance to you, or not crucial that you understand everything you see. Where as some books, or essays or whatever, take more time to read. Maybe this is just me.
But like everyone else said, I don't see what difference it makes. |

I'm an extremely slow reader, but I probably have a high comprehension because of that. Though, I won't try to confirm that with the site because it will probably depress me when I'm wrong. But there are "speed-reading" books in bookstores you could check out. Never tried it, but I guess you could look into it.

Ya I can remember where I left off really easily so I do that all the time. Only with how-to books or non-fiction, though. That's annoying with novels. However, there are libraries for that.

Well currently I have to some crappy books that I don't really give a crap about. If could quickly read and get them over with that'd be great.
