getting more and more interested in this cat, especially after finding a cool site w/ samples (second layer records)... found out fairly recently that he played le weekend festival in scotland... i don't think i was really into free jazz improv at that time tho... so, any fans on this board? anyone seen him live? what albums are good? I once saw the singer songwriter CD in monorail in glasgow and regret now not purchasing it...

I saw him once; it was cool, but really weird. A lot of strange vocal rundowns both without and through his horn, and some seriously enjoyable and fucked up horn work.
I met him that day too; super nice guy, but I could barely understand him! Not a lotta teeth. The people at the club (a kinda lame yuppie joint in Mpls where a really cool festival was held for a few days) nearly turned him away, thinking he was a homeless person! |

yeah, Arthur is a true music man, he wouldn't give a shit if nobody in the world liked his music as long as he gets to play. Did you know back in the day he played with sun ra's Arekestra, but he declined a permenant spot with them. He also became a writer after he spent five years in a french prision (on false charges).
Check out Qbico records, they have released a lot of stuff by him, plus they have a lot of other cool free jazz, psych, and experimental stuff: http://www.qbicorecords.com/

^^^also in Holland and Belgium.
Steve Noble is playing with him at Kraakfest, but I don't know if he's joining him on the other dates too. I'm definitely gonna see him, even though I already have a ticket for Electric Wizard that same night... dammit. |
