I just ordered the last 3 movies that will finish off my W.A. collection.....I had this insane idea to buy every movie he wrote, acted in or directed, since I already had three box sets. So, I bought the remaining 12 or so, and now I will soon have 43 Woody Allen movies...

Wow, that's a lot of Woody Allen.
I have (most of them on VHS) Crimes & Misdemeanors, Love & Death, Manhattan Murder Mystery, Take the Money & Run, Sleeper, What's Up, Tiger Lily?, Shadows & Fog, Zelig, Broadway Danny Rose, and Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Sex but were afraid to ask. I used to have the 3-book box of Without Feathers, Side Effects & Getting Even. They are pretty interesting to read because they contain a lot of the ideas that would appear in different films. |

I've never heard of those books. I'm going to check that out.
Looks like it's in a single volume now:

Not really a huge fan of his, but that's pretty impressive.

I have about 10 or 11 Allen films on DVD. Also have his book Side Effects which is very, very funny.

It was a mistake for me to trade that book set to the used bookstore or whatever was done with them.
Allen's New York Stories vignette from that movie is in one of them & so is most of Shadows & Fog. The rest is just unclear. |

Scoop hasn't come to the theater near(est) me yet & probably won't. I love Johansson (of course) & like Jackman, so I think I'll like it even though it's been panned by many reviewers as nearly laughless & somewhat tedious. I think they may just be hung up comparing it to Match Point which is a different type of film. Many critics gave Hollywood Ending & Curse of the Jade Scorpion negative reviews, & I liked those.

I laughed all the way through Scoop. It is most like Take the Money and Run, in my opinion, in that it relies heavily on jokes and does not have much of a clever plot (at least as compared to his whole canon of films).

Discuss: Bananas is his best comedy, Crimes and Misdemeanors is his best drama

To me, Take the Money & Run (that came out shortly after) is even funnier than Bananas. It's a bit less slapstick, but still in that same early very comedic vein.
Crimes & Misdemeanors is not only his best drama, it's his best film. It's funny too (as you know).

Melinda and melinda is my favoirte of his films, and I guess it would count as a drama and a comedy. Bananas was the first of his films that I saw and I loved it but I don't remember it very well.did anybody like anything else? I thought it was pretty good, but I know most people hated it

I went to some of the locations in New Jersey where he filmed my favorite scenes from Stardust Memories, and walked around, sat in a gazebo and imagined I was in the film, etc. It was great. I didn't go there just for that...I was already in NJ with the girl I was dating at the time.
